I hope we see at least one pony preening in season 4. On that note, do you think Pegasi like to preen in privat or do they just happen to do it away from what we can see in the episodes?

I would imagine it going a bit like the "Everything you wanted to know about wings but were afraid to ask" fanfic... in the first apart, RD teaches Twilight how to exercise her wings and fly while in the second part, Fluttershy teaches Twilight about wing-care and preening which is portrayed as semi-intimate - something they do for close friends and family.
Considering that the pegasi's wings are their life (except maybe for Fluttershy who prefers the ground), I would presume most of them would prefer having it done by their most trusted preening partners in the best circumstances possible so generally not in public. In the fanfic, Fluttershy says RD indulges in Fluttersy's wing-care services many times a week due to how much RD abuses her wings... makes it sound like Flutter-preen is RD's spa stand-in or possibly something more.
I imagine getting preened in a comfortable location by a trusted someone/somepony would be relaxing much like a massage, spa or whatever else.
