Nope, I defend her regardless; you guys however get threatened by a little girl. If you think she's lying about climate change, then you live in a cave, or you're one of those morons who deny climate change. The way grown men get so threatened and triggered by a brave little girl from Sweden, who cares about the environment is really quite laughable.

Everybody agrees that climate changes.
The idea that the planet is doomed in 11 years has literally no scientific consensus to support it.
She's either lying, or misinformed.
Which one is it?

We do indeed have a deadline; the point of no return, once we pass a certain threshold we can't go back; this is what a runaway greenhouse effect is; it has happened before infact, and it wiped out 70% of terrestrial, and 96% of marine species on Earth. If we go too far, then the planet will do the rest, just think of all that methane trapped under the ice, think of how potent methane is compared to carbon dioxide.
And we certainly have a deadline when it comes to issues such as overfishing, deforestation and species extinction, sadly.

I don't know maybe because species are going extinct? Maybe because here in France we broke records this summer with 46C? Hundreds died this summer due to the heat? Maybe because Greenland is melting faster than we thought? Even insect populations are in decline... What more do you want as proof? More heatwaves, more storms, more floods, coral reefs being damaged beyond repair... That's just the start... But I guess for people like you, it'll take a full-scale disaster that effects you personally for you to wake up and realise we're approaching, or worse, over the edge.

In some parts of the planet it's cooler and some parts it's warmer, it goes up and down in cycles, "more storms" and "more floods" is just a flat out lie.
For "people like me", it takes facts and evidence to support a position, especially when it involves restricting manufacturing which hinders human prosperity and costs real lives.
This idea that I "don't care enough" is just a religious-style tactic.
You're acting like a zealot.

I'm guessing you live in the US? That may explain your ignorance. Anything that happens anywhere else in the world doesn't count.
Climate change doesn't mean everywhere is going to heat up but weather patterns will get more erratic.
Hm, I was wondering where the ad hominens would come. I think you don't take it seriously is all, you just need to prove me wrong, instead of resorting to ad hominens.
Finally, there is plenty of evidence at your disposal, you perhaps wish not to see it, or dismiss it as fake news.

Everybody agrees that the climate changes over time, the planet is currently coming out of a natural ice age, for example.
That means the earth will get warmer regardless of if there are any humans on the planet at all.
If you're going to continue to insult me, can you at least not waste time crying about being insulted in return?

Magic-Gerbil In reply to VentAnger [2019-10-18 14:41:57 +0000 UTC]
Except human-induced climate change makes this change happen much faster; we are in fact in the midst of the Sixth Mass Extinction.
Natural climate change happens over thousands of years, giving animals time to adapt. Human-induced climate change doesn't give animals that option.
Greenland for example is melting much, much faster than what we thought.
It puts both humans and animals in peril.
I only mentioned the thing about being American because I've met too many Americans who think this way, if this is not the case for you, then I apologise.

That could have something to do with the fact that the Paris Accords and the Green New Deal treat global polluters like China and India as "developing nations" that are exempt from all the restrictions that America would be under, had we accepted those stupid deals.
We're just sick of your dumb hypocritical bullshit, that's all.

Magic-Gerbil In reply to VentAnger [2019-10-18 15:07:33 +0000 UTC]
Everyone should take responsibility for halting climate change, whether they are developed or not; China and India are indeed industrializing and increasing their carbon footprint; everyone lives on Earth, everyone will face the consequences, though some more than others.
Hm, how is it hypocritical bullshit?
👍: 1 ⏩: 1
VentAnger In reply to Magic-Gerbil [2019-10-18 15:13:25 +0000 UTC]
The plans are hypocritical bullshit because they exempt nations like China and India, are you even paying attention to what I'm saying?
And besides, we're developing technology that takes CO2 out of the air, so the need to reduce manufacturing is pointless.
What you refuse to accept is that I care about the environment just as much as you do, probably more since I actually looked into these issues and know what solutions work and what doesn't work.
For example, why are Democrats against nuclear power if they claim to support alternative energy sources to fossil fuels?

Magic-Gerbil In reply to VentAnger [2019-10-18 15:41:16 +0000 UTC]
If you care about the environment then good, but you're assuming I didn't look into it myself - I have; I have even been a vegetarian for the past 10 years and ride my bike everywhere. We both care, but have different ways of looking at it/acting upon it.
The fact the plans exempt China and India makes the implication hypocritical; but it hardly makes the plan itself "bullshit". I agree with you that all countries should take their part; but then that doesn't mean we should do nothing.
Technology that takes CO2 out of the atmosphere should not and can not replace trees though.

How does it feel knowing that the sacrifice you're making in your quality of life by not owning a car is undone by a couple dozen cows and their collective farts?
Again, we're not "doing nothing", we're developing solutions and technology that doesn't involve something so stupid as getting rid of cars.
"Technology that takes CO2 out of the atmosphere should not and can not replace trees though."
Nope, wrong again.

When did I pretend I "care more"? It's not a contest.
And yeah, you presume I haven't seen that video, clearly that means I don't give a damn lol.
For me it's not a contest, but clearly for you it is.
"How does it feel knowing that the sacrifice you're making in your quality of life by not owning a car is undone by a couple dozen cows and their collective farts?" - My quality of life is only mildly effected by having no car, as for cow farts; I do not eat meat or drink milk.
The reason technology can not replace trees is because you're not factoring in loss of habitat, loss of species, loss of natural heritage. CO2 isn't everything, it's only one issue. What about the animals? What about the destruction of the rainforests? No technology can replace nature.
Once again, CO2 is only one factor, the problem is much bigger, clearly as someone who cares about the environment, you should know this.

You started this off by defending a liar who pretends we're 11 years from global destruction, and since then you've backpedaled so much you can't even be seen anymore.
The fact that you don't eat meat or drink milk doesn't change the fact that your refusal to drive a car doesn't make you an environmental martyr.
Volcanic explosions put more into the air than all the cars combined, you're just stroking your own ego in a vain attempt to appear holier than thou, and it's silly.

The problem with all the ego" and snowflake labels it´s that is a double edged sword, as she said up many right-wing supporters like Benny here take it personally when they attack their messiah Trump but I didn´t saw him drawing a caricature about how their taxes over Spanish products could cost many jobs and looses over 35% at least on China they love the orange juice and pork and before you said I am a commie or something let me say I don´t give a fuck about Ideologies I just care for the people who works.
