Looking at realistic, natural human anatomy, I think mauroz made them kinda big. For that age and body type, anyway.

oh well, about that, yeah, you are right. But there are a lot of art streams and styles, and the "manga" style is a cartoonization of reality, you overdo the main traits of a person. Enlarge his/her nose, their eyes, their mouth, to give them an easiest way to distinguish. At the case of original characters, you overdo their shapes, their eyes, their gimmicks...

i think that almost any cartoon style (disney, peyo, manga...) its part of the expressionist stream, as Renoir et al.
