Maaaaaaan I love punch out,
I'm so psyched for the upcoming game I had to doodle something really quick today. I think Punchout had a huge impact on my art growing up, I always loved the expressions and the caricaturesque characters.
I'd kill to do a PUNCHOUT comic. Hajime No Little Mac?

This is going to sound hypocritical, since Mega Mans 1 through 9 are pretty much the same game, but I found the gameplay in Punch Out to be a bit repetitive for my taste. I can see the appeal - the memorization of patterns and the need to perfect the formula and finish the enemies quickly - but I dunno. It just doesn't play out the way I want it to.
Plus, I have a bit of a problem with games that are short. I would consider buying Punch Out Wii, but I keep hearing from various sources that the game is very short. I wish they had at least included more enemy boxers. Come to think of it, why didn't they? It feels like a wasted opportunity.
If I had to add another bullet point (at the risk of boring you to tears with my text wall), I would also say that I didn't play the game as a kid, and so I don't have any nostalgic feelings for it like I do with old Mario, Mega Man, Zelda, etc. I think nostalgia goes a long way for some classics. I don't mean that in a demeaning way, of course.

Ahhh...well the gameplay is exciting to me, it's really the satisfaction of quickly adepting to patterns you can see, and I love the expressions and intensity the game plays at...But that's just me, I love megaman too, that's just more fun to play to ace

They did I think, 16 boxers, and there's a mode where they all come back for revenge with their weakpoints totally gaurded ( king hippo wears a sewer plate on his stomach ) I heard they had trouble cramming everything on the disc, but I'm buying it basically to enjoy punching out people haha.
No i totally agree, nostalgia counts, I'm not trying to sell you the game of course, but if you ask me there's plenty of reasons to play, I of course don't expect you to play, to each his won you know?

The platforming in Tornado Man's stage is killer. Love that one!
Anyway, I can see the appeal of Punch Out, and I own the game on Virtual Console, so one of these days I may try to finish it. But I dunno, it's just not my cup of tea.
I've heard the new game disc is pretty loaded, yeah, but I keep wondering what it's loaded with. I mean, the graphics are really awesome - love the art style and the cel-shading and animations are ace. And as you mentioned, there are the "revenge" fights. There's also a multiplayer. But when you consider that there's only about 16 fighters, it still doesn't sound like it equates to much. I like to hope there's a surprise in store that the developers haven't spoken of yet...but for some reason, I doubt it.

haha to tell you the truth i've never beaten punchout, i just like opping it in and wrecking some dudes. Hell I do it once a month just to get the satisfaction.
And with the new one, you're right it really isn't much, but i can keep myself busy unlocking stuff, and eventually trying to KO guys as fast as I can, I figured out how to knock out Piston Hurricane in 6 seconds on super nintendo, was the sweetest ever!
-I think you need a different mind set for this game to really enjoy it, it's more about just having the satisfaction of playing, and less about a lengthy game. Plus if you don't look up any GAMEFAQS you should get your moneys worth out of it, kinda like MM9, soooooooooo hard to figure out some of the shit. I had no idea concrete shot worked on lava haha.
But yeah i'm considering trying to beat punchout before the game comes out, but i think it'll only make the game easier for me. Plus i think there's going to be way more story in this punch out? I'm really interested in that actually.

Concrete Shot works on lava? I always used Tornado Man's power for the lava guy (I forgot his name...Magma Man, right?). Hmm...I'll have to try the alternative next time I feel like beating the game again. ;D
I rarely ever use guides for games. I feel like I'm cheating myself out of the experience. But sometimes I don't have a choice. I can't play the original NES Legend of Zelda without one, and I'm currently stuck on World of Goo for WiiWare because of an evil bitch of a level regarding a red carpet or something. Evil evil evil!

oh no i meant it works on the lava beams, then if you shoot the trident it crushes the concrete beams.
If you never beat punchout before you might enjoy punchout for the wii, it'll take you a while to figure out how and when to dodge, punch, gain stars, uppercut and stop the opposition from crushing you with a super punch. it's almost a puzzle in some ways haha.
Shit Zelda was crazy without a guide.

I think I'm gonna be copycatting some of your style to nip at some of your line drawing methods. Just a heads up on that.

Wish I could officially critique... I'd say I'm a bit unsure of his face: the chin is too flat or his head should be rounder...but I do love his pose and the sketchy B&W look you kept. =]
