They have come from many parsecs away to study us, and they find themselves again... well not really; it's just a cosmic coincidence. We see it as a casual and sexualised outfit, and they see it as formal: a classic misunderstanding. Even though most of this comic is in their very alien language, somehow they managed to figure out HTML, CSS, text encodings, PNG, JPEG, HTTP, all that jazz and yet they never figured out any single one of our languages. Well the main joke of this comic (which is pretty much up to your interpretation, sort of) wouldn't work otherwise so, uh, yeah. Is their feeling more like 'literally me fr' or more like 'omg they're welcoming us'? Or perhaps 'how dare you furless creeps'?

The name 'the Lagomorphs' is not particularly imaginative: it's just that rabbits and hares are known as 'lagomorphs' scientifically. So it seemed like an appropriate name for a species of anthropomorphic bunny-like people. Ah wait, that makes it furry art. Oh well, tropes are tools.

And before you ask, no, it isn't just a ciphered existing language. I hastily made a conlang just for this. Emphasis on 'hastily'.
