1914-1951: Toby is built by GER, later absorbed into the LNER and then BR, withdrawn from service, but was eventually bought by a tramway in East Anglia

sometime between 1945 and 1946: all the flashback bits of Toby's seaside holiday occur here

1951-onwards: After receiving a visit from the Fat Controller, Toby is bought by the NWR shortly after his tramway line closed down and was given the number 7. He was later given a new coat of paint after James got into an accident with some tar wagons.
