Description Take 3! Dr Ph Martin's Iridescent Ink in Copper Plate!

As if the edge of the paper being lifted on the scanner isn't sign of its shininess enough, I also took video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZjFLc…
This one is even shinier than the green and orchid.

Taking it easy by stepping back from crystals for a couple pieces and showcasing metals instead (and we all know that when I'm drawing people in profile it's because I'm either taking a break or getting lazy). Also went with the more cartoony style anime with the bigger eyes, because I wanted the focus of this one to be the background rather than the character, for better or for worse.

I tried something new with the background this time, in that I coloured it first. Normally I colour the character(s) first and by the time I'm done I'm so drained/done with the piece that I just whip through the background to have it over with. I also wasn't sure whether or not the background would turn out, so to save myself the trouble of entirely re-colouring the character, I did the background first. I'm happy to say this was the first attempt instead of the fourth.

*ensures that the coffee-stained edges are cut off by the scanner*

The metal sun is based off of a photo of a - surprise, surprise - metal sun wall hanging. I originally intended to underpaint it with the iridescent ink and do the colouring overtop, but I forgot to do that, and there was no way I was going to colour it again, so it's just bordered in gold gel. I have a love-hate relationship with the rendition. Some pieces of it I'm thrilled with; others fall very flat. C'est la vie.

As for the filigree, that was a fight. I spent literally hours searching for the style I was looking for (at one point ranting to my sibling about Louis XIV baroque ironwork), and in the end still couldn't find the perfect image, so I whipped up a Fibonacci curve, combined a whole bunch of the references I'd seen, and made a stencil from it. I should have added more detail into the 3D effect, but by that point I had already coloured the sun and was very much metal-ed out.

(As for the clouds, as per usual, the scanner ate them. I have yet to encounter a scanner that does not give me this issue.)

And as for Sam herself...meh. I was really happy with the line art for her hair (finally getting it similar to what I've been picturing for years *pretends I don't say that every time I change it*), and what I SHOULD have done is to take the original sketch, outline the individual tufts, clamp the marker paper on top, and use the lightboard to use that as a base for colouring. Instead I frantically scribbled some shading on during lunch break and made a mess of things. Tried to fix it with white ink highlights, aaaaaand here we are. I know where I went wrong and how to fix it in the future. Whether or not I WILL...*shrugs* Also tried to find a proper natural lipstick shade for her skin tone (as the colour named "natural lipstick" is far too purple), and it's a bit brighter than I'd hoped. I'll get something figured out. Tried something new with the cast shadows, and while they're more obvious than they have been, they have a bit of a green tinge to them, so I'll have to find a way to work around that. Went too heavy shading on the collar bones again, but I think I can get it next time (shaded with the fourth shadow level when I should have gone with the third instead, but it's better than full-on outlining them in multiliner as I did in the Salmon and Wisteria one). Cheek-to-nose fusion is also far more sharply bordered than I'd like, but I definitely know what I did wrong there. Baby steps.

I think this is the first time I've drawn her without her earrings (for canon reason, she's always wearing them; the reason she isn't here is because I planned on going over to grab the purple marker and got completely distracted by my birbs).

Next up is Gabriel's paired image with silver. I'm still fighting with the placement and details in the background, so it will likely be a while.

Done with Prismacolor brush markers, Promarkers, and Copics for the colouring, Dr. Ph Martin's Iridescent Ink for the filigree, white and gold Gellyroll, and white pencil crayon.
