Description Gabriel: *glances over* "Okay, WHAT is on your arm?"
Samala: *reddens*
G: "Don't you clam up on me!"
S: *reddens further*
G: *sighs* "Fine. Let's get this guy to Boss so you can go back to whatever weird thing you were up to before he called."
S: *nods frantically*

Having been called in suddenly on a Saturday afternoon, neither of them had much time to do anything but change into work clothes and meet in the parking lot. For Gabriel, who had been reading, this wasn't too much of an issue, just an annoyance. For Samala, who had been working with pastels, it didn't leave much time for clean up. Gabriel drove into the parking lot to find her waiting by the door, scrubbing at her arm with paper towel, and then did her best to keep the side of her arm out of view throughout the mission.

*Later, driving back after delivering target*
G: "...So art, huh?"
S: *grimaces*
G: "Still not going to talk to me?"
S: *looks out window pointedly*
G: "You are allowed to have hobbies, you know?"
S: "Doesn't mean I want to talk to you about them."
G: *glares*

One of the things that hasn't really come up about Samala (especially since most of my art has focused on the later years) is that she doesn't really talk around people she doesn't know. She's not shy: she's just assessing them, monitoring her surroundings, etc. And when she gets nervous or uncomfortable, she tends to go non-verbal again. As a result, it took a few weeks for her to use full sentences around Gabriel, and even then it was with 'infuriating frequency' (as he would word it) that she would slip back into speechless observation. (Gabriel enjoys conversation. Being paired up for five [or more] days of the week, or seven hour car rides, with someone who didn't want to talk to him? It made him pretty grumpy.)

"So she does art?"
Oil pastels on large canvases. When I first started she did carvings, but there was an issue with that: it was noisy. It didn't fit her character. So after going through a few different options, I felt like oil pastels would be the best fit.

"Still an art lover, though. Projection, much?"
Hey, I already have to do a tonne of research for the stuff I write. If some of their interests match mine it at least means I can enjoy the research I do, right? (Besides: I know next to nothing about oil pastels - they could be super noisy for all I know - and I utterly despise working with canvas. *pretends that makes it totally different*)

OH GOSH I HAVEN'T COLOURED IN SO LONG
"It's been two weeks?"
SO LONG

This is the first time I've tried to do a blush with these markers. It looked super dark when I had just shaded the skin itself, but now that it's all coloured it doesn't feel apparent at all. Oh well. It was a first-shot. I can't imagine I'll be doing a lot of them, as common as they are in most manga drawings I see.

I coloured Samala first, and was decently pleased, and then moved on to Gabriel...and promptly forgot how to colour, it seems. I had no sense of light direction, shading, anything. While I don't think it looks horrible, I really hope whatever killed my brain is gone next time I try to colour something. (And speaking of Gabriel, his lower torso really should be about six inches over. I really messed up on that one. He looks part weiner dog. I am so sorry, child...)

I feel like I botched this description. Just...so choppy...but whatever. I have colouring brain. Hopefully it made some semblance of sense.

Done with Promarkers and Prismacolor Brush Markers on marker paper, lined with Microns.
