Description A SotC fanart in the style of Zelda The Wind Waker. I drew it for 's birthday in 2007, as the second part of a triptych about the human cast of the game and some of its colossi. Here are Mono and Phalanx, while in the first (which you can see here ) I did Wander and Gaius. It measures about 25x36cm and the problem with such big drawings is that I have to scan them in a photocopy shop and the colours usually end up dull. This requires a lot more digital work to restore them: Mono's dress in particular was a pain, since it turned up so light that most details were completely gone.
By the way, it's curious how the design of Phalanx and the colours of the desert location rendered in this style remind of Moldera and its arena from The Wind Waker.

It's difficult to say something about Mono because she doesn't do much in the game, being... dead, you know. But with her ethereal charm she's a worthy entry among the ladies of Ueda's pantheon, visually speaking but also thanks to the mysteries surrounding her background: what was her cursed destiny and how was she bound to Wander? For all we know, she could even be considered the only truly innocent character of the story. Being dead from the beginning it's easy to assume that she's just a victim, albeit without any certainty.
And speaking of ladies, it's even more unfortunate that The Last Guardian's protagonist isn't a girl as he was supposed to. Years ago I told my girlfriend Eva how I'd have preferred a change of sex to the protagonist of Ueda's third game to favour variety... just a little before the man himself announced that it should have actually been a girl but they changed their minds due to futile reasons. Too bad.
