The Mertynn Species:
The Mertynn are one of a few different inhabitants of a distant, unknown planet. The Mertynn are a race of small round mammals. Their most notable feature is their claws. A skilled Mertynn can sharpen their claws to the point that they can grip and climb smooth, hard surfaces. Because of this, their claws can be very dangerous, despite the short length of their claws (about 1cm). Their tails are semi-prehensile, allowing them to lift some objects, though they can't get a very firm grip on most things. A skilled climber will occasionally help an unskilled climber by linking tails to use as a life-line. Mertynn live off a omnivorous protein-rich diet.

Mertynn knowledge is very limited. They live in small forest villages comprised of wooden huts. They are known for their glass making skills, as their claws aid them in cutting window panes. They have recently made an advancement into electricity, though it is limited to simple batteries, lights, and a bit of experimentation with electromagnets.

Since the Mertynn have had no contact with extra-terrestrial life, they are limited to speaking in the languages of their planet. Needless to say, there's a bit of a language barrier here.
