I don't know. Is short hair a label? Is girl a label? We can't pick and choose.
It seems like the real message is not to put yourself in a box unless it's custom made by yourself... It's all stereotypes and judging until it's time to fill out the "100 questions about me" tags or meticulously edit your deviantArt bio. Real life isn't so easy censor.

you forgot to put a comma after "easy" in the last sentence ^^
and autistic is a fact, having short hair is a fact, being a girl is a fact, not labels. Being labeled weak at Baseball because you are a girl is a label but being a girl aint a label, its an amazing fact ^^

I agree, that's why this picture is kinda dumb really.
People say they don't want to be victims. They aren't. Until they take offense at things on purpose.

Interesting comment. Funny how I never said that people who are labeled are victims. Merely stating that because everything is covered in labels it's hard to see who someone truly is because labels are easier to digest. I think your own personal preference or angst has brought you to the conclusion you stated, however it's not the intended one based on the image and caption provided. But why pay attention and consider that? (:

You are free to call people angsty to shut them down, when they disagree with a picture about labels. This shows where the priorities lie. With being dramatic and politically hip. This is as deep as a puddle. I'm sorry but it's true.

What I don't understand is why does this have to be dramatic or politically hip? Or even deep? I stated the meaning of this piece in the caption. It's pretty straightforward. I draw and upload a new doodle every day I don't and shouldn't be expected to be deep every time. It's not my fault that people may think it's deep or not deep. But to say that this piece is bad because it isn't deep is kind of irrelevant and redundant as it's not suppose to be. Why I said you seem angsty is because you appear to be upset that it isn't deep when I never had the intention of it being so. Not meant to be a shut down just an observation trying to figure out why you appear to think that what you said is in disagreement with me and my intent as the artist, and then why the lack of depth makes it "bad". It's just very interesting logic.

Sorry, I guess someone's personal deviation wasn't a good place to start a conversation about this topic.
It's more about our culture's response to certain topics; I commented because this was featured and often see pictures like this featured. It was probably bad taste to start an argument with the artist, I apologize.

It's very well drawn.
But I still wonder why the artist purposely doesn't put labels that are politically popular, it makes me wonder about the real intent.

I don't think it's as deep as everyone is saying.
To me, it feels like a typical attempt to be a tragic victim. Naturally the labels that compliment this image are the ones the artist will never include.

I loved this piece of art. I see on it an representantion of that none of us know ourselves, that we don't exist in fact. We are composed of ideas and characteristics that we have of ourselves and that people make os us, but none of them are represent the truth, they're just opinions, interpretations that can be contraditory with eachother, just like it is shown in the picture, wich has, for example, black and white, short and tall, pretty and ugly, etc.. And also these interpretations change along the time because we are mutative, we're not eternal. "The name that can be named is not the eternal name" - Lao Zi.
P.S: sorry if I comited any english mistakes.

Ah don't worry about it, the message got across just fine (:
And yes I really do agree with what you stated. From all the opinions from others and ourselves we kinda lose who we really are, our true identity that can't be defined with a group of singular words!

I've never understood why 'Tom Boy' was considered an insult. And I can't understand how people would use it as an insult.
This is a beautiful work, thank you.

I don't understand why the word exists. Why can't it just be called "a girl who likes sports/blue/*insert whatever preference here.* How in the world does it have anything to do with making you more or less like a boy? Girls can like those things apparently. They can therefore be called in these cases girly.

Because this whole movement away from Binarism is really new, and cultural changes do not happen overnight. Usually.
A large portion of the population *need* labels to keep things straight in their heads. The idea that things don't need to be kept straight is foreign and scary for them.
I'm just saying that among the various labels out there, I've never understood why Tomboy - as a label - is *so* insulting. Especially if it's embraced in the face of the people who are using it as an insult.
Embracing the label in the face of those who are using the labels as weapons forces them to face their biases.
As a bonus is usually really pisses them off, as well.
*shrug* I could also be wrong and would appreciate some education.

I see. I guess it bugs me because I think boy and girl just means what body you have, and judging what gender you are based on conventions is just as problematic as forcing conventions on people because of what body they have. It's fighting fire with fire.

Haha XD I'm struggling to get used to it too! In fact just now I also realised I accidentally said I was 15 because I forgot I had my 16th birthday recently XD it can take a while to get used to things haha
Its my pleasure! And of course people read it, it's almost always really important to your artworks and while your artworks can often be inferred by people in their own unique ways the statement you put in the description shows how you inferred your own artworks so I love reading them.

Very nice and thought-provoking! It brings a lot of questions to mind: Which labels do we put on ourselves? Which are placed by others? Which of the two holds the most truth? Do they limit or inspire us? Which do we value the most?
The placements do not seem random. I see some interest combinations among them
