Description
A deadly worldwide pandemic was halted by a miracle vaccine that stopped the spreading virus in its tracks. With an injection being mandatory around the globe, everyone could get back to their normal lives…until the changes started. A new crisis began as 2% of those injected with the vaccine began shrinking until they were no more than 5% their original size. With the whole world in the mists of an economic depression, governmental assistance to the newly diminished population left much to be desired. With few programs available to help the newly reduced and distrust growing between the littles and normies, micro communities began to form of littles who looked out for themselves.
Sam Collins was just another city official. A health inspector for the environmental health services. Sure, he was tall, not bad to look at, but beside the occasional trip to the bar he admittedly had a pretty bland life. Of course, there was plenty of hustle and bustle with the virus, but the vaccine put a solid end to that affair. The same vaccine is what put a solid end to any plans Sam had about his future. Waking up in bed a mere fraction your original size tends to get in the way of one’s routine. After trying and failing to get a giant’s attention, Sam ends up falling down a storm drain where he is rescued by a community of littles living below the city in “The Underkeep”. Finding new purpose in life, Sam joins the ranks of The Keep’s Mouseguard, who are tasked with protecting the city and guarding the caravans that go on supply runs above. The little guard takes to his new role with vigor, enjoying the challenges, respect, and validation in his job. But big spiders and giant sewer rats are nothing to the newest threat The Underkeep faces as an old acquaintance of Sam’s sets her eyes “sanitizing” her city’s underground infrastructure.
Jessica Stower was walking determination. She had only been with the EHS for 5 years and already had a chance at her becoming regional superintendent. Her boss was retiring the following year leaving the vacancy open with whoever had a little ambition. The job was thick with kickbacks and bribes, all of which would lubricate Jessica’s way to an early retirement. Now that her coworker Sam had disappeared, Jessica didn’t have to worry about any competition. She just had to do this one job…and it was a big one. Word had come down that the politicians wanted to be seen making a notable effort in cleaning up the city in wake of the economic depression. Her task was to oversee the sanitation of the city’s underground infrastructure. Rumor had it that it had become rife with all sorts of vermin, some that even walked on two feet. No matter, whether the critters had paws or little hands, Jessica would see them gone and her career secure.
Casey Winters was a junior in college majoring in finance. A lover of fantasy novels and a bit too shy for her own good. One night she spots a group of littles who looked to be stealing from a local convenient store. They all appeared frightened of her as if she was going to try and stomp on them or something. As if anyone should be afraid of little ole Casey. As if she could ever harm a people so tiny and adorable. A handsome little man dressed like one of the toy knights she used to play with explained their situation. Excited at the prospect of getting to see the littles again, Casey offers her help in becoming a normie liaison to The Underkeep and the city above. The tiny knight named Sam of the Mouseguard and young Casey, a student of Brookstone College work together in helping the little population below the city. A task becoming increasingly difficult due to a particular city health inspector…
(This is not an upcoming story from me, just one of the plots from from my size changing musings)
