To be honest, I had no clue what to title this. I was going to call it "Silver Lining", but I already had one called that in Part I...I suppose I could still call it that since Part I is more of a "pilot" series. Still, the title is subject to change.

Anyways, I figured I would follow up from the last comic after the responses I got. I wasn't able to reply to all of them (sorry! I did read them, though!), but many others feel the same way, and there was a lot of encouragement in there, too.

It sort of reminded me of a song I had heard with a line of "friend will protect the silver lining". Yea, when I looked at my drawing compared to the others, it was different. It still will be different, and my stuff always will be different.

I can attempt to draw "seriously" rather than little furries or chibi style, but the thing is, I'm self-taught. I never took a proper drawing class in my life. I learned pretty much everything from How To Draw books, looking at how other people did it, and drawing anime characters over and over again (and at that time, I was obsessed with DBZ and Digimon...and since my fav characters were Gohan and Takeru/TK, guess which characters I drew a lot).
Yea, I had a semester of Photoshop...can I tell you a secret?

I did horribly in it.

The only time I aced a project was when we did Flash Animation for the second half of the semester. The Photoshop unit...it was all photo manipulation, and I TANKED it.
I learned a little more about Photoshop when I joined a scanlation group as a cleaner (and oh my gosh, fences will teach you how to use that clone-stamp tool very well...as well as patience. And where the "edit-undo" shortcut is >.> ) and typesetter.

Sometimes when I look at people's artwork, they're kind enough to tell me how they got a certain effect if I ask.

So, it was pretty much all "guess and check" with my drawing. "Hit and miss".
I finally stuck with this style; a sort of kid/chibi and furry style. Of course, I don't get much practice at drawing adults or backgrounds, so I still lack in those areas. It took me over 15 years to get where I am now with just drawing my style...I could try to learn backgrounds and adults, but that could take another 15 years. I mean, I suppose it'd be worth it...I've been trying to do more sketches of teenagers and adults (anime style, of course). But again, no proper instruction means it'll take a while.

ANYWAYS...

My point is, my style will always be different. I don't know proper painting techniques, and stuff like that. And if that's a reflection on me, then so what?
My mom pointed out that there's nothing wrong with being different...and she's right.

Yea, my drawing is different and stands out...and I know I still can learn a lot even when it comes to my own style. But that's what makes every single drawing unique. Even though the colors make it stand out in this instance, what's wrong with not following the crowd? What's wrong with not following the trends?

We've all got our own styles and uniqueness...sometimes, we just need the help of other people to get us to realize that.

I'm not normal, and my drawings might be a little different, too. But the main thing is to accept that.

Blending in might win contests, but what's so fun about that?

When I play Pokemon and used to do competitive battling, I used pokemon I like instead of the ones you find on every single VGC team. Sure, they had trouble competing with those sort of copy-paste/cookie-cutter teams, but so what? I was having fun, and I actually got on the ranking boards on some of the competitions that Global Link runs. Not because I just chose powerhouse pokemon, but because I chose pokemon I like and made a strategy around that.

It's the same thing here. If you're having fun (and your fun doesn't hurt anyone), what does it matter if I'm different?
I know there will be times when that "bad different" flares up...it's inevitable. But at least everyone here reading this...know that you're not alone in feeling that way; that it's okay to be different, and there's nothing bad about it. Yea, it can cause frustration and anxiety; yea, it can cause depression...
But it can also pave the way to creativity. And frankly? This world needs more creativity and people who think differently.

That's us...those of us on the spectrum. Even those of you who read this and aren't on the spectrum, you can still think outside the box.
