Equilateral pentagons for the win!!
This is an old work (several years old) and I always liked the way this fared out. It is one of the few backgrounds that actually deals with a random facet of math.
The idea for this background is taken from Martin Gardner's Time Travel and Other Mathematical Bewilderments, where there is a chaper on polygonial tiling. Feel free to find the book and persue the chapter at your own lesure.
