Description Had this in my head for a while now and decided to mock it up today. This is my Disney-esque cover of Jacqueline Wilson's book Secrets.

For those not familiar with the story, it's aimed at 10-13 year olds and tells the story of two friends from very different backgrounds.

Treasure (Rapunzel's character) previously lived with her mother and stepfather Terry, her step brother Kyle and sister Bethany and her half brother Gary until Terry's abuse of her left her with a scar across her forehead and she was subsequently taken in by her Nan, Rita. They live on a rather rough estate but Rita and her family all love and care for Treasure. Rita is rather young for a grandmother and her other children aren't that much older than Treasure, her youngest child Patsy, one of Treasure's aunts, being seven. Nevertheless, Treasure keeps fearing that one day her mother and Terry will come and take her away again.

India (Merida's character) lives on the posh Parkfield Estate with her father Richard, a wealthy businessman, and her mother, Moya, who is a famous fashion designer. Also living with them is their Australian au pair Wanda. India goes to a posh private school but doesn't have any friends due to the fact she has frizzy red hair and is overweight, consequently she is the subject of much teasing at school. She loves the Diary of Anne Frank more than any other book in the world, for which the others at her school view her as a little weird. Her mother constantly criticises her weight and her father has recently started drinking, in secret.

The two meet when India has to walk home one day through Treasure's estate and the girls become the best of friends. With each having their own problems, an confiding in their own secret diaries, it isn't long before their two stories truly become intertwined when Terry comes back into Treasure's life and India begins to suspect her father has been sleeping with Wanda.

I won't spoil it for you by giving the rest away, but it truly is one of Wilson's best stories. I mainly picked Rapunzel and Merida for their looks rather than their personalities; although when you think about it, Rapunzel is emotionally manipulated and later abused by Mother Gothel and Merida is made to feel she doesn't live up to her mother's expectations, so in the end my choices worked out fine.

(Pascal shouldn't really be in the picture but I couldn't figure out how to get rid of him!)

I'm thinking about doing this with more of Wilson's books, let me know if you have any recommendations.
