Whittington is just off the A5 (historically the main East/West road from London to the Welsh ports to Eire) and is reputedly the home of both Dick Whittington (and, presumably, his cat) and Robin Hood. The castle is gorgeous and sits right in the middle of the village, acting as its village green the lucky dogs
