Description
And we're back with another fancast before these go on hiatus once again. And we're going back to Superman villains. So like I said last time, almost all of the live-action Superman movies have only used Lex Luthor and General Zod. Which is a shame because Superman has a great rogues gallery. While most of his villains are not nearly as complex as the villains of say Batman or Spider-Man, they're still memorable one way or another. Last time I cast Parasite, Mercy, Metallo, Mr. M, Livewire, and Brainiac. This time I'm casting some of his more colorful villains. Some of which probably won't ever make it into a live-action movie. That said, I still want to cast them for funsies. Not much else to say, let's get into it!Lobo
While yes, the last son of Czarnia isn't technically a villain, he's too cool for me not to include on here. In order to understand who Lobo is, we must turn back the clock to the 1990s. A decade that ushered in a new era of superhero comics. It was a time when bright and colorful boy scouts like Superman, Spider-Man, and Captain America were no longer considered relevant in the comic industry. As a way to repeat the success of comics like The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen, writers started pouring out new edgy and gritty antiheroes by the dozens. Characters like Azrael, Cable, Overkill, and Venom were becoming so commonplace so fast that everyone very quickly got sick of it. The world needed a hero. Nay, a parody! This brings us to Czarnia. A planet so peaceful and tranquil that it was believed the universe made it so that there was at least one evil Czarnian to balance things out. Enter the last son of Czarnia: Lobo. The guy who not only caused the midwife who delivered him on the day of his birth to go insane but the guy who killed all the other Czarnians so he could feel unique. After that, he would become a bounty hunter. Not just any bounty hunter, but the greatest bounty hunter in the DC universe. Whether, it's legally or illegally, for money or for fun, whether you're good or bad, Lobo will find some way to hurt you. He even comes with his own gender-neutral insult. "Bastich". Lobo is one of my all-time favorite DC characters. He's basically DC's equivalent of Deadpool. But then the New 52 happened and we got a more dark and mysterious Lobo with a tortured past and all that jazz. So yes, Lobo became the very thing he mocked back in the 90s. Thankfully, they eventually rectified this. The dude is so unimaginably crazy that you have to wonder if his creator was either drunk, criminally insane, or both. Name any character in the DC universe, good or evil, and Lobo's likely kicked their ass at some point. He's so stupidly powerful that it's no wonder why he's tangled with Superman man on many occasions. This is a dude who somehow got himself banned from the freaking afterlife, and yet he's never appeared in any live-action movies! This needs to be changed! I know everyone wants Jason Momoa to play Lobo and I agree that he would be great, but since he's Aquaman I think we need to look elsewhere. Now hear me out on this one, but I think this is a job for Liev Schreiber. I can see why some people want him as The Thing from Fantastic Four, but I've already cast him, so I cast him as Lobo. While at first, he doesn't seem like the Lobo type, but I can just imagine him in full hair and makeup riding on a motorcycle in space. He could easily give us a very grizzled Lobo who really looks like he's seen some serious shit. And I think the spiky black hair and leather jacket combo would be a good look for him. While I'm not entirely sure if he can do full-on zany Lobo, he can be funny when he wants to be, we just don't see him show off his comedic side very often. We do know he can play a character who's at odds with the hero constantly, and honestly, his performance as Sabretooth was the best thing about X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Both that, and movies like Goon shows he can play an antagonist, and a possible anti-hero if they go down that route. So give him a cigar and a long metal chain and he's ready to go.
Mongul
There have been two different versions of Mongul. There's the original Mongul, sometimes referred to as Mongul the Elder, and his son, Mongul the 2nd. I don't really think it matters which version they go with since a lot of Mongul's animated adaptations have never referred to him as one specific version. Plus, personality and goal-wise, they're practically the same character. Whichever version you pick, Mongul remains a cold and merciless warlord, who thrives on battle and conquest and travels on a planet-sized engine called Warworld. Mongul has invaded countless worlds and has enslaved billions. While he's often paired against Green Lantern, he's just as well known for fighting Superman. Mongul needs to be played by an actor who can play a character who is tough and scary, but also intelligent and sophisticated. Someone who looks like he's been around the block a couple of times, and like he has experience with whatever it is he does. To me, that sounds like Liam Neeson. I've been wanting to cast Liam in something for a while. One of the most experienced actors alive, Liam can easily play someone who is intimidating as f*ck, but also someone who is wise and clearly knows what he is talking about. While it is a little redundant to have him return to play another DC villain after playing Mr. Al Ghul, you can't deny he would bring an epic amount of presence to Mongul. And make this tyrannical titan truly come off as one bad mother-f*cker!
Claire Selton aka Volcana
Claire Selton was supposedly born with pyrokinetic abilities. Her parents sent her away to Metropolis's Center for Paranormal Studies so that she could learn to better control and develop her powers. However, a covert government agency soon their sights on her, and against her will, subjected her to their experiments. Their goal was to make her a living weapon, and she was given the codename "Volcana". Afterwards, she escaped and became a fugitive. Seeing that her old life was gone, she became a thief in order to survive in the streets of Metropolis. This naturally brought her into contact with Superman. And she's been a frequent foe of his ever since. Volcana is a villain with a lot of potential, but she's never really reached it. She could've been the Catwoman to his Batman. A villainous vixen who could be a hero, but finds the villain life a bit more interesting. But she always just stayed a crook who's often employed by bigger villains. I feel like, in the right hands, she could be one of the most fascinating villains in Superman's rogues' gallery. And I think the right person to bring her to life is Emma Stone. Despite not being a natural redhead, Emma has a natural knack for bringing bodacious babes to life. While I love her in movies like Easy A, La La Land, Zombieland, and Birdman, it was her recent role in Cruella that convinced me she was right for this role. As her performance was easily one of the best aspects of that movie. Whenever we were allowed to see Cruella just be Cruella, Emma absolutely killed it. Frankly, she needs to play more villains. We saw that she can play someone who feels like they could've been someone good, but are just too immersed in their life of crime. We know she can be sassy, but also calm and relaxed. Like she can do whatever the f*ck she wants. So I would kill to see her bring this hotheaded homewrecker to life.
Joseph Martin aka Atomic Skull
Now like Mongul, there have been two different people to become Atomic Skull. I'm casting the Joseph Martin version because I find him to be the more interesting one in terms of both his design and his character. Joseph Martin was a college student who was caught in the blast of a gene bomb. The bomb's radiation, of course, gave him superpowers. Mainly, the ability to fire radiation-based energy blasts. This rendered his skin transparent. Due to being dazed by the blast, and suffering brain damage due to being attacked by a group of thugs afterwards, Martin began to hallucinate and believed he was a character from an old movie he was a fan of. He became the Atomic Skull. And perceived Superman of all people as his arch-nemesis. Atomic Skull is another villain with infinite potential but has never quite reached it. Now I highly doubt that Atomic Skull will ever be the villain of a Superman movie, at least in a major role, but if he did appear, I think this would a great chance to reinvent the character. We need an actor who could easily make the character his own. Personally, I think Logan Marshall-Green could really make this role his own. We know he can make a character his own in movies like Devil and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Characters like the Shocker who don't have much of a definitive character trait he's able to really craft into something else, and I feel like he has the potential to become one of the next big actors in Hollywood. We've seen it in movies like Upgrade. Where not only can he do action, but can be funny as well. My ideal interpretation of Atomic Skull would be someone who doesn't take life too seriously and enjoy the witty banter with Superman, but at the same yearns for a normal life. And to me, I think Logan could easily embody those traits.
Manchester Black
Not much is known about the being who calls himself Manchester Black, but what we do know is that Manchester didn't exactly have a great childhood. As a boy growing up in Manchester, England, he was verbally, physically, and even sexually abused by his parents. With the only real friend in his life being his sister. As he grew up, Manchester began to grow a cynical hatred towards traditional superheroes with "high moral concepts". Believing that there's no room for heroes with "no-kill" rules anymore. Manchester then assembled a team of other metahumans with similar beliefs as him. Together, they became the Elite. A team of vigilante superheroes who took down and brutally killed whatever villains they came across. Naturally, this leads them to the most kind-hearted and "no-killing" superhero of them all. Superman. Leading to one of the most famous battles in Superman history. The thing I love about Manchester is that he's not technically a villain. He doesn't want to take over the world, he wants to fight crime but has a very violent way of going about it. He's a real "my way or the highway" kind of person. You can either play by his rules or not play at all. He just doesn't want anyone to go through what he had to. He doesn't believe that there's any other path to peace than violence and murder. He's liked a crooked version of Batman and Superman rolled into one. I haven't seen Supergirl past a few episodes that frankly didn't impress me, but for my Manchester Black, obviously, I'm casting a British actor. Someone who can play calm and collected, but still show off pure rage and anger when he needs to. A few actors come to mind like Peter Serafinowicz and maybe Andrew Garfield, but I picked Jude Law. Jude is simply a master of his craft. Often bringing a strong calm demeanor to his characters, but can be quite unhinged when he wants to be. And frankly, I think he wasn't given enough time to shine in Captain Marvel. With a smile that charm the pants off of any man or woman, I think he's got just the right amount of skill to play this boastful, British, baddie.
Siobhan McDougal aka Silver Banshee
Ever wanted to see Black Canary as a bad girl? Even if you didn't, there's something really cool about the villainess known as Silver Banshee. Siobhan McDougal was born to Garrett McDougal on an island off the coast of Ireland. The island is home to a clan of old Gaelics and the Castle Broen. The island was the battleground for firstborn McDougal's who would have to fight for the honor of leading the clan. Siobhan had no interest in this war ragged tradition and left to travel the world for many years until hearing about her father's death. Ironically, this motivated her to be part of her family's ritual, but her uncle didn't want a woman leading the clan, so she took it upon herself to do the ritual herself, alone. However, the ritual involved calling upon supernatural forces to gain extra power. When her brother irrupted the ritual, it caused the supernatural forces to drag her into the netherworld. There, she struck a deal with a being known as Crone, who gave her superpowers. Thus Sobhan was transformed into the Silver Banshee. A dangerous supervillainess with the power to generate a deadly sonic scream. While traveling to Metropolis to retrieve a book belonging to her father, she killed anyone who stood in her way. Bringing her into contact with Superman. And she has clashed with both him and Supergirl on many occasions since then. Slowing losing her sanity over the years. If they did a Supergirl solo movie, I think she'd make a great villain for her first film. This is a villain with infinite potential. You know who would be a lot of fun in this role? Lena Headey. One of the most versatile actresses working today, Lena has all the qualities for a role like this. She can play a divine damsel and a wicked villain. Especially villains. In both live-action works such as Dredd where she played the very horrifying Ma-Ma, and in animation as the vile but sympathetic Morgana Le Fay in Tales of Arcadia. And while yes, she isn't Irish, she is good at replicating different accents. Plus, there have been adaptions of the character, both in live-action and animation, without the accent that worked just fine. Either, I think she would be an absolute delight in this role.
Jack Nimball aka Toyman
Now like I said last time, Toyman is a hard villain to cast because he's been reinterpreted so many different ways over the years. We've had the living doll, the creepy mastermind, the sad and lonely fanboy, the evil genius, and the rich kid from Japan. After careful consideration, I've decided to make things easy on myself and just cast the first two Toymen. First, we have Jack Nimball. Jack Nimball's backstory, to this day, remains unknown, but what is known is that he took up the mantle of the Toyman after the first one went into retirement. Aaaand that's about it. Jack was never a particularly interesting character despite how surprisingly often he gets adapted into animation. The character is really a blank slate, so this is another villain who whoever they cast can really mold into their own, and make the character stand out however they want. This is why I went with Bill Hader. Funny, fast, sharp, and versatile. These are the words to describe Bill Hader as an actor. Not only is he funny, but we've seen him shown off a lot of his range in recent years. Such as in Barry and It: Chapter Two. We know what Bill is capable, and that he just seems to love being in everything. To the point where he's basically made it his goal to become the next John Ratzenberger by having at least one role in as many recent Disney and Pixar films as he can. And I think he could bring an insane amount of charisma and charm to Jack Nimball.
Winslow Schott aka Toyman
Now for the more famous Toyman. Winslow Schott, or sometimes Winslow "Winn" Schott Jr, was once a skilled toymaker who toys for children with his wife Mary. One day a man named Walter Dunhill arrived at their toy store and wanted to go into business with them, but they turned down his offer. However, it wasn't until after his wife's death that Winslow took up Dunhill's offer. But Dunhill lied to Winslow and sold his toys to weapons manufacturers. This caused Winslow to take revenge by murdering Dunhill, and from that forward, Winslow Schott became the Toyman. A criminal mastermind who seeks to give the world back to children, and rid it of the tyranny of adults. While he's not at the same level as Luthor, Brainiac, or Zod, Toyman is still a dangerous foe. One who can outthink you and then kill before you realize you've been caught in his trap. Winslow is like the world's most obsessive fanboy who never truly grew up. A child trapped in an adult's body but still has the brain of a genius. You need someone who can play sophisticated, but also kinda twisted and teetering on the edge of insanity. To me, no one fits this role better than Patton Oswalt. A true fanboy if there ever was one, Patton can not only be insanely hilarious but can play characters who are smart and have a lot on their minds. Whether they be the hero or the villain, or live-action or animated. So dress him in overalls, give him a bowtie, and he's ready to go.
So those were the rest of my choices to play the Superman villains. If you agree, then let me know, but if you disagree, then that's fine. Let me know your choices in the comments section. I might end up having one more fancast in store. One, I'm surprised took me so long to get to. But until next time, have a great night, be safe, and take care.
