Five years ago today is when I discovered Doki Doki Literature Club for the first time (thanks, Markiplier), so as per tradition I made something to celebrate it. This was based off of a couple pieces of fanart I’ve seen before, taking the two & kind of mixing them together. I really liked the idea of Monika leading in a deadly dance since her way of showing love can be mostly sweet…with a side of terrifying. I did something new this time, making the background digitally. I felt that it would’ve looked better that way had I done it traditionally (plus, my hand still hurts).
The characters of this game, who feel more like people than characters to me, will always hold a special place in my heart, for they were the first characters who really made me look at myself introspectively, inspiring me to improve myself as a person in whatever ways I can. I may not be perfect, but without them (especially Monika), I’d be a lot further away from the person I really want to be.
