Dragonsmana's Cryptid files: [link]Cryptid File 95A Cornish Owlman
Size: That of a large human
Territory: Mawnan Smith, Cornwall, UK
Description: Large avian humanoid
Info:
The Owlman was first reported in the aforementioned region on April 17th, 1976, by Donald Melling, and his two daughters, June and Victoria. According to their story, the two girls were out for a walk in the woods near the local church, when they saw a large winged entity hovering over the church.
Somewhat suspiciously, Donald refused to allow paranormal investigators to interview his daughters, though he provided investigators with crude sketches the older of his daughters had made. The story was printed as a pamphlet entitled Morgawr: The Monster of Falmouth Bay, and was circulated throughout Cornwall.
In July of that same year, two teenage girls were camping in those same woods, when they awoke to a hissing sound, and exiting their tents, saw a large, owl-like humanoid with glowing red eyes standing near their campsite. The entity promptly took wing, leaving the scene. Some doubt, however, can be cast on the girls’ account, as both had read the aforementioned pamphlet not long before their encounter, though investigators who interviewed them claimed that neither of them were consciously lying, partly due to the fact that several other sightings were reported over the next few days. After a while, the owlman apparently went dormant, with few sightings reported.
Various explanations for the entity exist, the most common are that it is either a spritual entity, due to its presence near purported ley lines, or merely an owl escaped from an aviary.
All in all, the Owlman is really only notable in regards to its similarities with another cryptid- the infamous Mothman of Point Pleasant.
