Another spiked-out Beast Hunter, this is an OK upgrade for Prime Soundwave. As you could probably see just by looking at the thumbnail, Soundwave has some preeeeeetty vibrant colors... which is very different for Soundwave... well, let's have a look!

VEHICLE MODE: 4.5/5
This is a pretty awesome mode! The wings are the most noticeable difference, with the giant yellow spikes at the end. They are a very nice addition for vehicle mode, but for robot mode... well, you'll see. My only nag with this was something I wasn't expecting to still be present with this retool... RiD Soundwave had trouble with linking his legs for the jet mode... it's still there a little. Not as much, but it could be fixed.

TRANSFORMATION: 4/5
Really, it's nothing special. The thing is that the wings don't pop in to the legs as easy as they did before, sooo...... yeah. I don't know what else I can say!

ROBOT MODE: 3.5/5
OK... this... is kind of ugly. It's more of a downgrade than an upgrade. First off, remember the new wings I mentioned earlier? Well, look at them on his arms now. They don't let his arms go all the way forward. Well, that would be fine... besides the fact that his arms are absolutely freaky now. Not that it's strange for Prime Soundwave, but... honestly? Also, see the little Ravage sitting near him? I can't stick him into his chest like you could with Lazerbeak. This makes his chest look horribly empty. It's just not good... Wow.

UPGRADE: 2/5
Really, I like this figure. But some of the new things on it don't help. This makes it more of a downgrade, so I can't give it a good score. There was a few things I was looking forward to with this figure that just didn't satisfy me.

OVERALL: 3.5/5
If you're one of those "Skip out on Repaints/Retools" guys, I honestly won't try to stop you like with Wheeljack. It's just not worth it. For me it was, since I am here to collect them all, not get the cool ones and leave the others. It's seriously a bit disappointing to me...
