Original meme byHad to do this as a follow up to the top 15 favourite fictional cats meme
Like with the cats, I too have many favourite dog characters
-Charlie (All Dogs Go to Heaven- the first one not the sequels)- Ah yes, my favourite Don Bluth character of all time - and one of my fave 'jerks with a heart of gold'. What made Charlie very refreshing to many dog characters at the time was that he wasn't the typical loyal goody 2 shoes to a human owner or an exalted hero. No, he was a con-artist (a very conniving con-artist that is) who worked with his very shady partner Carface (a bull dog), who makes his transition from con-artist to loyal. But what makes him really great was that after the incident where he rewinds his heavenly watch and encounters the secret to Carface winning the gambles that he took (a little orphan girl named Anne Marie, bless poor Judith Barsi's soul
-Jock (Lady and the Tramp) I actually ADORE the entire dog cast of this entire film, Lady and Tramp included. But what puts Jock up here was that yes, he could be uptight and overprotective over the fact Lady was going with a stray dog (thankfully Tramp proved he wasn't so bad), but he cares for his friends (Lady and Trusty- I still can't forget how heartbroken he seemed when Trusty was hit by the dog catcher's carriage. Thank goodness he survived). He is also proof that you can have a character who is a concerned male friend to a female lead without making them into potential love rivals. (I still can't forgive how the upcoming remake genderflipped him due to Disney trying to be 'progressive >: ( )
-Pongo (101 Dalmatians) Like with Lady and the Tramp, I really enjoyed the dog cast of the film, especially all the dalmatians and the roles the 2 main dalmatians played. However I decided to go with Pongo cause without him (being a sort-off wingman for his 'pet' Roger and finding a mate of his own (Perdita), the story wouldn't have happened
-Zero (The Nightmare Before Christmas) Tim Burton sure had a lot of undead dog characters in his film, and his most famous stop motion flick is no exception. I do adore a lot of his dog characters, but Jack Skellington's spectral hound will always be my favourite- being Halloween Town's equivalent of Christmas Town's famous red-nosed Reindeer, with a jack-o-latern nose for a light
Nik Nik (Plasmo) For those of you who are unware where the second stop motion canine on my list is from, he's from a 1997 Australian Science fiction series which started off as an animation project, which then spun off into a mini-series. It tells of the adventures of the titular alien Plasmo (an adorable little Polybop or shapeshifting alien), his surrogate sister Parsty (my favourite character in the series), thier dog Nik Nik and 2 bumbling bounty hunters (one of them with a rather....questionable design in the eyes of several people) and their search for home. Nik Nik makes this list for being my favourite alien dog (followed up by Marvin the Martian's pet K-9). He may seem like the average pet at first, but the more you watch the episodes, you'll find that he's pretty useful in addition to being adorable (he can fix a ship!)
Georgette (Oliver and Company)- Perfect isn't easy but its her! XD Oh This fabulous diva of a poodle was pretty hilarious, even if she's no Miss Piggy or Rarity in terms of fussy diva type characters. Granted yes I agree she can be antagonistic, vain and stuck up and was very rude to the titular kitten Oliver at first (mainly due to jealousy) but she does eventually get better and proves to actually care deep down (going on a mission with Dodger, Rita other dogs to find Oliver- even if she was reluctant at first) to help and actually part takes in outsmarting the villian's dobermans. (Oh and the fact she warms up to Tito the chihuahua's rough nature was actually pretty funny XD) Oh and she's voiced by Bette Midler (aka Winnie Sanderson from Hocus Pocus).
Komasan (Yokai Watch- Original series AND Shadowside)- Ah my favourite Mascot of the Yokai Watch Franchise. I cannot help but adore this little kitten-esque Komainu (and his brother Komajiro). His S rank form is one of my favourite Yokai to use in YW2 and, while I'm give or take on the anime even if I like some episodes (I like the games better), his skits the best out of all of them. As for his future form in the shadowside series...despite him having a somewhat different origin to his original form, I'm fine and dandy with it (especially since his new form actually resembles a Komainu a lot)- again another reason for me to wait for YW4 for the switch.
Fly (Babe)- For anyone who grew up with these films like myself, who can't forget this motherly Border collie/sheepdog? She is very patient with her pups (even if she, like the rest of the other animals thought pigs were lesser animals at first) and not to mention the scene where she actually adopts Babe as her own son and accepts him as one of her kind after her puppies are sold :')
Dog (Footrot Flats comic)- Ah another somewhat obscure mutt and the second sheepdog on my list
Snoopy (Peanuts comics)- A classic dog character, who could not forget Charlie' Browns pet Beagle? Heck even in the Bluesky Peanuts movie he ALSO stole the show.
Shadow and Chance (Homeward Bound)- Like with Sassy (who is one of my favourite fictional cats), Shadow and Chance are what made this live action film memorable to me. Chance is hilarious with all his banter with Sassy and is always getting into trouble due to his rambutious playful nature XD. Shadow, the golden retriever is everything we wish in a pet dog, Loyal, truthful, always by your side. Not to mention very wise
Otis (Milo and Otis) - The responsible Yin to Milo's playful Yang, Otis is also a very loyal and sweet friend. Plus he's a pug, and they're pretty cute- not to mention one of those breeds who can get along well with other animals. It was also very cute when he meets Sandra (the snooty, yet lovable French Pug) and has 3 puppies with her....and his reunion with Milo (and Milo's new family)...just awwww!
Denzi Dog IC (Denziman)- Long before Power Rangers, we had the series from Japan known as Super Sentai, which, like with Digimon, focused on a new team of members (with a new team) each season. Denziman (1980) tells of 5 people of an alien island from the planet Denzi, which fell to earth when the Vader clan invaded the planet. Many years later, the vader clan seek to invade earth. Thier presence soon awakened this little robot/cyborg Akita Inu, Denzi Dog IC, who's mission is to seek out the descendents of the Denzi clan. Denzi Dog IC is absolutely (in Japanese) kawaii, loyal, does his job well, and during the climax from a later episode....*SPOILER ALERT* sacrifices himself so the heroes could progress in thier giant robot
Bimbo (Betty Boop shorts)- Betty's sidekick and anthro dog boyfriend in her earlier shorts before they were toned down, Bimbo had WAY more charm and spark than any of those bland male human suitors that came after that (blame the Hayes code for censorship). Not to mention if it weren't for him and Betty, Roger and Jessica wouldn't exist.
Noveau (Hana no ko LunLun)- the other half of 70's Magical girl Lunlun's friends/companions, Noveau, like Cateau, is also a fairy in disguise, in his case, that of a dog. While Noveau can be lazy and sleeps a lot, he does prove to be just as useful in helping LunLun as Cateau and is a great friend. Plus you got to love his very laid back nature

Aww, look at all these good boys and girls! (My dog-loving obsession is showing)
In contrast to your cat meme, I actually know all but two of these canines, Denzi IC and Nouveu, but love them from your descriptions all the same. Glad to see I’m not the only one who liked Georgette despite her pompous behavior early on. It’s also nice to see people still remember Bimbo considering Betty ended up stealing his spotlight.
I’ve been meaning to fill out memes like this and want to do all my favorite animals at some point. Maybe I’ll fill out this dog one later.

Glad you like it- I know you would since how much of a dog person you are
That's really cool. Yeah I do watch some Japanese shows (not necessarily anime) from the 70s or 80s at times and that's how I get to know some of these characters (plus power ranger type shows are a guilty pleasure of mine, though I wasn't prepared to shed tears when Denzi IC sacrificed himself so the team's giant robot could go on and defeat the greater evil villians ) Oh and fun fact: For alien dogs, Marvin the Martian's Dog K-9 almost made the list, but then I realised I loved Nik Nik a tad better - especially since he can FIX A SHIP
OMG, someone who dosen't hate Georgette either! YES You know me, I'm always more for a flawed character who starts of kinda pompous, a jerk/annoying etc, but has redeeming qualities and/or gets better later on, rather than a sickeningly sweet idealised one dimensional character. Also, I'll never forget Bimbo- without him and Betty, there will be no Roger and Jessica Rabbit (one of my favourite Toon OTPs).
Speaking off, whenever I do see peoples' lists on favourite dogs, I'm kinda sad that some of the dogs from live action movies don't make lists much anymore, especially Fly from Babe (one of my favourite mother characters and dogs ever). And speaking of live action, I'm especially peeved that they want to change Jock's gender to female in the upcoming lady and the tramp remake cause 'we can't have a male character worried for a female that isn't a love interest plus feminism.' UGH MALE CHARACTERS CAN WORRY ABOUT FEMALES AND JUST REMAIN FRIENDS YOU KNOW.

I was gonna ask about K-9 and forgot since he wasn’t on the list. XD Yeah, I think Nik Nik has him beat with his superior ship-fixing skills. And I loved Georgette’s character since I first saw her as a kid and while I know a lot of people hated her spoiled, pompous personality, I honestly thought it was hilarious. I mean, yeah, she’s mean towards Oliver, but she was way more bark than bite. And it wasn’t like she tried to kill him like the butler did in The Aristocats. At the end where she returns Tito’s affections and he learns what it’s like to be with a high class lady always had me laughing ‘cause of how it backfired. XD Georgette is perfect alright.
And omg, so many people aren’t aware that Jessica and Roger were inspired by the interspecies pairing of Betty and Bimbo! That scene where Betty says how lucky a gal Jessica goes over everyone’s head. Glad I’m not the only one who noticed.
Yeah, I can understand that. Although, I mainly watched a lot of animated shows growing up and wasn’t too interested in live action shows until much later in my early teens. I have so many favorite dogs though that I might have a hard time really choosing. A lot of dogs in cartoons and movies after all. ^^’ Mild spoilers, but I also had a few favorite book dogs growing up as well.
Ugh, I’m physically cringing at all the Disney remakes, and Lady and the Tramp fills me with so much worry... If they wanted to change anything from the original, then it should be the Chinese Siamese cats considering their ‘oh-so subtle Asian stereotyping’. While I hope they don’t just remove them all together (‘cause I actually still liked them despite everyone’s complaints), I think changing their design (getting rid of the buck teeth) and hiring actual Asian voice actors to make their voices authentic would be an easy fix.
I can’t remember where I read it, but someone had pointed out that while the Disney live action remakes attempted to fix ‘sexism’ where there was none, they have done nothing to fix their old racist portrayals. Heck, they just flat out removed the crows from Dumbo and made the magic feather white ‘cause they were too cowardly just to update the crows. Looks like Disney is fine with riding that Feminism train for social brownie points, but refuse to acknowledge their actual past mistakes and improve upon them. -_-‘

Look at one of the stamps I've faved on my front page, it's the mean doesn't mean unlikable stamp- pretty much sums up a lot of my fave characters on my character bingo which ive filled (Georgette can apply too). I actually felt sorry for Betty in the film cause Jessica got to keep Roger while she wasn't allowed to keep Bimbo.
Fun fact: the crows were always my fave characters in Dumbo- as a kid i never viewed them as racist, just funny birds which helped our main hero.
(Someone needs to do a fave bird characters meme- i will so fill it!)

I checked out your stamps and agreed with most of ‘em, including the mean doesn’t = unlikable one. I think it mainly comes down to writing and what angle the writers are going for. I tend to lean towards jerk characters with a heart of gold or even kind hearted characters who have their limits and will show a more vicious side if provoked enough. Pure evil or pure good characters just lack that substance that makes them interesting. But of course, I have those guilty pleasure characters that are just total cinnamon rolls, but whose personality actually adds to the story (like if every other character is bad and they’re the only good character, thus, offering a sort of foil).
And yeah, as a Betty X Bimbo shipper, it’s pretty disheartening that they basically got rid of him ‘cause of his name and the censor’s early view towards interspecies relationships. While Betty Boop is still around and apparently has a reboot in the works, I don’t think they’ll bring Bimbo back in fear of the backlash. :<
I still don’t fully understand why they’re racist aside for maybe being over the top with their accents? One of the voice actors was white while the rest were voiced by a black choir group so...? I mean, yeah, naming one of them Jim Crow wasn’t smart, but they’re great singers, have great designs, and overall were good guys who helped Dumbo so I honestly don’t see the issue??? In fact, they actually remind me of Jose and Panchito and one could argue their accents are ‘stereotypical.’
Also, on that note, ironic that you said that, ‘cause I did in fact start a bird meme, along with a dragon one, as well. XD Both have to be put on the back burner for now, but I do plan on finishing and posting it soon.
(Gonna respond to the cats meme comment here ‘cause it’s easier for me ^^’)
I like both Gatomon’s final forms, but Magnadramon is just too awesome. She’s literally a pink lion-dragon who can float around and resembles Falkor and Haku! I mean, I love angel characters as much as the next gal, but, pink dragon-lion, with wings and is Asian styled. Can’t beat that, it hits all my aesthetics. As for the shippers, that’s just plain shallow and idiotic. Hating a final form simply because the character can ‘no longer be shipped with this other character’ just doesn’t make sense. And I always found the whole, ‘the owners are together, so their pets/companions should too!’ trope to be annoying when people force it or use it as ‘proof’ of their ship.

If you click on one or 2 of my stamps you can see my comments on why I've faved them (mainly the Mean doesn't equal unlikable and the 'picky shipper' one- The latter is due to the fact I only ship certain pairings in certain universes).
IMO some of my fave jerk characters happen to be know it alls or/and (either) have big egos that tend to be stepped on for laughs (blame me for growin up with CN more than Nick (Even if I do have my fair share of fave Nicktoons) and having it as one of my main influences for my cartoons- why do you think I keep Peter and Loralei around quite a fair bit as antagonistic characters who are part of the main cast?). IMO You got me at those guilty pleasure characters (I love Komasan from Yokai Watch for example). The best cinnamon roll characters in my opinion act as foils to the jerky main heroes (Currently I LOVE Adorabat from Mao Mao as she plays off Mao Mao's egotistical yet still lovable personality) AND have thier own quirks. (You can say my Olivia in my Duskville cartoons is pretty much one of those cinnamon rolls).
I hope the don't get rid of Bimbo cause of that stupid censorship BS.
OMG- finally someone who agrees with me on the crows- I've always liked them.
And yes, Magnadramon for the win. We need more Falklor/Haku like dragons. (I do like Ophanimon a lot too (though for her angel forms I still prefer Angewomon, her previous angel form), but I personally think Magnadramon gives her more individuality- and it hints to her more felid like nature). Yes the shippers are pretty idiotic. I hate that whole trope too- it only worked in 101 Dalmatians to be honest- and that was because Pongo was being a Wingman to Roger to get him out of his house. And also, there is this vid that talks about how there is a LOT more diversity in the team now that Kari's Tailmon/Gatomon chose to become Magnadramon rather than Ophanimon.
(a comment by a user named Eduardo talks about how toxic Ophanimon's fans can be due to angelshipping and how they call Magnadramon a 'stupid pink dog thing' and stuff like 'She's just a stupid MLP version of Falkor and not good for Seraphimon (I'm not kidding on the latter- a few Ophanimon fans said that about her final form choice)): www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv-i1B…
