In my headcannon, Espresso Cookie’s home was burnt down by intruders trying to get important research papers. After they got rid of his parents, they started after him. Out of fear, he used his magic to fight back. But his magic was very powerful and he had no idea how to control it, so he had murdered the intruders. He had escaped with Latte Cookie (who was sick and asleep). It was his unstable magic that made him experiment with it extensively and not have contact with others. But he is still haunted with this memory and fears that he may hurt someone again.
