Description Starswirl, you really need to check which idioms you use.

Also, wooooooooooo, Season 4 opener! How did you find it? I really enjoyed it personally; I think it's about tied with Season 2 as my favourite opener. Although, that locked container shown at the end has piqued my interest: is this going to form part of a season-long story arc? Will the Mane 6 have to go on a Legend of Zelda-style quest for the keys? Is this Discord's fault? And why not just try to open it with a sledgehammer?

Guess we'll be finding out these coming months!

Sorry. I don't take change well. And I agree with your first point, but it would be better if the Elements were, at the very least, used as a sort of "finishing move" of sorts.

But I've gotten over it, because after doing looking over some things from the show, I've come up with a theory:

What we thought were the Elements are actually merely just tools that utilize the power of the Tree of Harmony. The REAL Elements of Harmony are, in fact, the Mane Six themselves, and they have been ever since the show began.

What I mean is that the "rainbow beam" power doesn't lie within the "Elements"; rather, it has lied within the Mane Six all this time, and the "Elements" have actually only served to help the Mane Six realize the power that lies within them. This would help the "EoH used as a 'finishing move'" thing I talked about earlier, and would actually make their new methods of defeating villains actually WORK.

This theory makes TONS of sense when you consider these facts:
*In Season 1 Episode 2, Twilight told Nightmare Moon that the Mane Six EMBODY the Elements of Harmony(and this was after NMM SHATTERED the "Elements", mind you).
*This is a REALLY HUGE HINT that this theory might be true: In Equestria Girls, Twilight and the AU counterparts of the Mane Six manage to use the power of the EoH despite the fact that the ONLY Element they ACTUALLY HAVE is the Element of Magic.  Now, we have long believed that the other 5 Elements can't work without the Element of Magic, and as such the opposite(the Element of Magic can't work without the other 5 Elements) would be true as well, so why DID it work even though Twilight and the other girls only had the Element of Magic? Because Twilight, the REAL Element of Magic, was with the AU counterparts of the other 5 Elements.

*This is something someone on YouTube pointed out: The streams of magic that flow from the "Elements" to the Tree of Harmony are the EXACT SAME COLOR as the body colors of the members of the Mane Six that they correspond to.

(Magic = Purple (Twilight Sparkle), Generosity = White (Rarity), Laughter = Pink (Pinkie Pie), Honesty = Orange (Applejack), Kindness = Yellow (Fluttershy), Loyalty = Cyan (Rainbow Dash).)

Plus, this would provide a GREAT lesson: "Your potential to do great things lies within you.")

I guess so but really they didn't defeat any villains did they. All they did was put the bullets in the gun per se. The firer did the rest in this analogy that was the tree.

Still there were things in the two episodes that resolved themselves quite quickly which was a shame. And some things weren't really explained and then there was stuff added in there for no apparent explanation other then it would look neat. Also there were a few contradictions. And the biggest deus ex was zecora.

However despite it all these two eps were ALOT better then some eps of season 3.

Sounds about right! The lack of a villain didn't really bother me though; as far as I'm concerned, these episodes were more about cementing Twilight's ascension and reassuring everyone she was still the same character we all love :3

... I don't think you understand what a deus ex machina is. A deus ex machina, something that comes out of nowhere and solves all the problems. The Harmony Tree, integral to the plot of the episode from beginning to end, added new dimensions to existing lore, and was the source of the day's problems - the solution of which was the sacrifice of the series' greatest weapons. It's like, the exact opposite of a deus ex machina. Seriously, deus ex machina? Seriously?

I guess what I should've said was Zecora was the deus ex machina and the tree was a cop out.

Yes, the tree of Harmony wasn't a Deus Ex Machina, Zecora's potion on the other hand...

However, I still like it though,  the main problem was pacing, I often think this episodes should be 3 parters, it may make the story flow better (or it would end even more cluttered).

In the end, I still loved it

I'm guessing that the box contains the new MacGuffin power-up that will be revealed in the season finale.
Until then, we're probably going to get five or six episodes that feature each of them finding a key after discovering some deep personal truth or something like that.

They're setting up a "MacGuffin Quest" season. I love those.

Yeah, this sounds like the best of both worlds. I love the idea of a coherent story arc across the season while keeping the slice-of-life-ness ^^

You know, Celestia mentioned other synonyms for their Elements in "Magical Mystery Cure".
Maybe those are the upgrades...
(I've had Digimon on the brain ever since I began thinking about this potential arc)

I hope so; those synonyms felt like they fit far better than the original Element names. 'Loyalty' doesn't really cover throwing your heart and soul into something you really believe in, like Rainbow does, but 'Devotion' does. Same for Kindness vs. Compassion over giving Discord a second chance.

Not to mention that even beyond actual character traits, "Optimism" seems more like a driving force than "Laughter" does.

Discords family is a fine line of hookers that would fuck anything for a dollar

This reminds me cause my grandfather once took me to a restraunt where we were seated next to a girl with a rainbow mohawk
my grand father asked her
"I fucked a parrot one time,
are you my daughter?" She responded
by saying "maybe"

My friend and I developed a little headcanon that the cave the tree is growing in is the same cave the Hearth's Warming Six became friends in, and that first vital friendship between six ponies caused the tree to sprout. I realise that would require some pretty crazy geological movement between the settling of Equestria and the present day, but hey, I like the idea

I wonder if that tree bears fruit every time the #$%^ hits the fan in Equestria?

Applejack could mass produce the elements if she could plant a whole crop of the tree.

There was that comic where Applejack uprooted the Tree of Harmony to Sweet Apple Acres to make cider from the fruit

Queen Equilus, the non-corporeal living heart of their planet, charged with keeping ponies from falling into Darkness.

Sorry, that's my bit of headcanon anyway. I'm toying with a theory that the mythologies of FiM can be unified with the Mythology of Transformers if you assume a Cosmology similar to that of C.S. Lewis's out of Silent Planet. Princesses would be Equistria's equivalent of Primes, and Primus and Qeen Equilus (my invention) would be the equivalent of planetary angelic guardians seen in Lewis's "Out of Silent Planet."
