Description
Tadzio, from Mann's novella 'Death in Venice'.It's an excellent story with imagery that really stays and this lingering feeling long after you finish it.
I tried to capture the part when Aschenbach watches Tadzio as he peers over the verandah to look at the musicians below.

I've love both the book and the film. I'm so happy to see you bringing Tadzio to life in your own way.

I've read the book. I'm not sure what I thought.
Partly I liked it, partly it was disturbing and partly it was rather depressing.
That's a lot of parts. I'll have to go back and check old blogs to see what I really thought.
I like Rufus Wainwright's song, Grey Gardens, a lot though.
In between tonight and my tomorrows,
Tadzio where have you been...

I think what I liked about it most was the disturbing bit, it's the sort of disturbing I love.
I don't know, it's tastes. On a paralell note for instance, I love Venice because its so decadent. It's falling apart. Jewels in a sewer. Perhaps perverse yes.
I know people who dislike Venice for the same reason.
And oh I was not familiar with that song THANKS for sharing

Nice depiction of Tadzio.
I like both the book and the film. I guess it's because of the tragedy of the story. And of course the setting.
I visited Venice last year and it was impressive in many ways. Jewels in a sewer is maybe a god metaphor. It's decaying in style.

Amazing! I didn't read the title, but I thought of Death in Venice as soon as I saw it! I've never read the book though...just seen the movie.

I've never read the book you're drawing from but he kind of reminds me of "The little Prince" which really took me back, so, faved.

Hehe I love the little prince I mentioned it just today, what a coincidence!
Well in the story, the boy wore a sailor suit which was kind of the in thing for 14 year old boys to wear those days apparently, but other than that, the story itself is rather dark and unlike the le petit prince.

It's unlike it now anyway.
It's only a matter of time before hollywood gets ahold of The Little Prince.
Then it will be darkly dark... Then Tim Burton will direct... and Everything charming about it will be stripped away to make room for disturbing images rung out from the sweaty jowels of a long dead carnival worker and everyone will be going "Where the f*ck is gene wilder? Squerrels? Whas that in the book? HIS TEETH! LOOK AT HIS TEETH!"
*breaths heavy*
....Sorry...

haha
Tim Burtonish Little Prince!
An anime version of it existed when I was a child.. it charmed me. Dunno, I think they had plenty time to ravage the little prince if they wanted to put it in film... but who knows, I might still be surprised!
I am not a big ourist when it comes to film versions of books I love. I like to see ideas interpreted in new form. For me the original will always be there and that's what matters

I love most of Burtons films and as I think about it he might do a pretty wicked Little Prince, though I think Guillermo Del Toro could do it better (Pans Labyrinth made me giddy) However, I thought the new Charlie was a migraine made on film.
I remember the Prince anime more vividly than the book because my grandfather read it to me in French... and then interpreted it into english with an impossible Romanian accent, lol.
But yes, timeless and loved.
