Description
The main-line warship of the Avanti, the Mercury-B class Battlecruiser is one of the most advanced and powerful vessels of its size in the known multiverse. At 500 meters in length (1,640 feet), the Mercury-B is exceptionally fast and maneuverable, matching the corvettes of many other races in speed and agility. It carries a wide array of weaponry for any occasion and has its main turret batteries positioned all across its hull to maximize its firing arcs, with only a few small blind spots in the rear due to its oversized shield emitter plates, which are mostly covered by the vessel's speed and maneuverability. The vessel can be operated by a single individual from the neural interface chair on the bridge if necessary, but is typically crewed by 50-100 Avantian engineers and gunners, as well as its Shock Trooper compliment, the pilots for its strike craft and three sentient AI who manage the ship's power distribution, overall efficiency and any other systems that aren't currently being manned (these three AI form a check-and-balance security system should one of them be compromised). The large, translucent-blue strip across its back is not actually the Mercury-B's bridge, but rather the vessel's sensor array, carrying multiple redundant sensors of each kind available to it. Mercury-Bs typically hunt in packs of three or more, circling enemy vessels like sharks, dodging enemy fire before launching coordinated attacks to wear down shields and strike and vital systems using their high-yield beam weapons. In the hands of a trained Avantian crew, the Mercury-B class Battlecruiser is a weapon to be rightly feared by the enemies of the Whitestar Fleet and Kingdom of Avelair.

*Trivia: The Mercury-B class Battlecruiser is not actually named after the planet or Roman deity Mercury, but rather after the element, which was chosen to represent the vessel's fast-flowing and deceptively lethal nature. As such, the vessel has a different name in native Avanti, while the name "Mercury" is the English translation thereof.
