Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. Mid Kansas, Sadly, the drought in Kansas has sapped the salt marshes here so that there was almost no water and therefore there were no waterfowl present at all. (Nor the raptors that are attracted to them.) This is one of handful of wildlife refuges in the U.S. that cranes, geese, ducks etc. rest on their long journeys. Usually at this time of year the skies would be filled with ascending and descending V formations of a variety of geese, cranes and ducks (and too many types of waterfowl to mention here.) This is one of many acres of grassland that surround the marshes.
