Some evenings, these tree swallows (in numbers too large to even estimate) fly above our lake, at times soaring high (as in this picture) and at other times swooping down low over the water, all in search of insects. Some fly so low over the water they will break the surface with their tails or wings. They make the loveliest chirping sounds. One evening I was on the lake when they did this and it was rather magical to be in the middle of it all. This was taken from our 3rd floor balcony which overlooks the small 5 acre lake.
