Description
So, I was contacted by the Martha Stewart show, and they might want me to do a demonstration of my mask-making technique on the show...right? If you're curious, check out my latest DA journal entry. They wanted a couple samples of my work. One choice was obvious (the mask I'll be demonstrating for the show...pics of that coming soon), but what to do for the second mask?
Dragons are SO not Martha Stewart's style. Anything really exotic like my Persian motif masks...maybe not right for the yuppie "country livin'" image she is associated with. So hmm.
And then I got smart & went online & played with The Google a bit. Turns out Martha loves animals, and the animals she loves the most are her blue point himalayan cats!
So after learning that, my choice was easy. Does this make me a dirty whore? I suspect it does.
Like all my masks, this one is hand carved & shaped from one piece of 8oz leather. Painted with Liquitex acrylics.
I'll probably be offering this design in my Etsy shop eventually. [link]

I saw that show yesterday. Not on tv, but on the Internet. I was like OMG ANDREA IS IN THAT SHOW! It's so nice they invited you! She seemed to be really happy with this mask.
When you showed how to shape a mask, it looks so easy. But I think it isn't so easy as it looks like.
Anyway, great job, as always!

But it was cool! You seemed so relaxed there. Like this isn't even a challenge, but something I'm doing the whole day xD You looked like that. Pretty impressive!

... and it doesn't make you a dirty whore, just a savvy businesswoman.
Anyway, this mask is so gorgeous. I'm glad you were inspired to try something you mightn't otherwise!

Thanks!
Yes, I agree; it's not a mask I might have done on my own without a catalyst. Sometimes inspiration comes from strange circumstances.

He thinks he is! x3 He doesn't have the 'mustache' but his fur type and coloring match that of a Himalayan cat. We actually found him as a stray.

Beautiful! You could easily use this basic shape for other long-hair breeds. *cough* Maine Coon *cough* I would definitely go for one of those. >^-^<

Ooooh...I LOVE Maine Coon cats! So cute!
I'd have to do a totally different design though. Maine Coons have rather long straight faces while these Himalayans have the short faces of Persian cats. Something to explore...

You know, I was never into Maine Coon kitties until I got my Tasi. But as any kitty parent will say, MY Maine Coon is the cutest.

It has a cute little kitty face! These cats are kinda cute-looking anyway.
It feels like a dirty trick to make a mask of her favorite cat...but I hope it works.

That's really cute!
I know Martha Stewart's all puppies 'n kitties 'n rainbows... but I'd see if you can't sneak a dragon or something in there. ;D because they're really cool. And that's the kind of thing that'll make the folks at home go "wow, this is really awesome! Look at all the possibilities!" and such.... variety is good.
Of course, don't fight Martha, either, if you think it's too risky xD 'cause that's a huge opportunity.

True...I agree that the dragons have more of a WOW factor. I'm hoping that I'll have the opportunity to bring along some of my cooler masks when (if! If!) I get on the show. *fingers crossed*

Nah, you're just researching your intended audience and what will be the best fit with their interests and tastes.
Doing something that suits the host's interests is considerate and thoughtful--and turns out an adorably cute mask to boot!

Awesome! With specific breeds, I always worry that I'm not getting it quite "right", so I'm glad that a person who owns this type of cat could recognize it.
Let me know if you ever want a mask of your cat...I'm thinking of doing "pet portrait" masks after Halloween rush is over.

aww that's cute!!
but ya especially the himalayan b/c they are the smallest cat breed so their ears and face are more compact than the others
