Prompt (Internal Instinct)
Prompt #: 6: Danger could be lurking around every corner in Ulfrheim. Every Felvarg has to face off against an array of threats to survive and keep those they care about safe. Depict your Felvarg going up against a dangerous element or enemy.
Additional Extras:
They called the great bear ‘Monolith’, a beast that was said to have continued growing even beyond reaching maturity that roamed the mountains mercilessly attacking and killing anything in its path, claws raised, teeth bared. It was a terrifying beast that all of Kohoutek’s siblings spoke about when wanting to spook each other… or dare each other to become brave.
“I heard that a whole pack was wiped out by Monolith the other day!” one of his siblings would gossip to another while they chewed on the bones of a fresh kill, the siblings sticking together even as they had learned to fend for themselves without Faye’s watchful eye.
“Oh yeah!” replied the other, “I heard there was only one survivor and it was a titan felvarg! Even he was so mangled he only lived long enough to tell the story to his rescuers… this bear is a true monster!”
“Do you think we can take it on??” a third sibling replied while rolling over onto his side, stomach full of fresh meat.
“Hehe, we are the descendants of only the mightiest of felvargs!” the first one spoke up again, standing up in front of his siblings, “We’ve all proven our worth this entire time! Our mother is extremely proud of us! Even the slower, baby brother, Kohoutek,” he smirked playfully as he teased, but even he had acknowledged Kohoutek’s growth. All of them had grown together as siblings. It was what Faye had wanted of them.
However, the siblings would never get to attack Monolith with all of their members.
Following that fateful day, two of Kohoutek’s bold siblings were caught off guard on a mountain trail, ambushed in surprise by the monster bear. One of them was their leader, the brother who had teased Kohoutek and still approved of him. The loss fell onto the heavy hearts of the siblings who remained. At first, there was sadness, but it was soon followed by anger.
And to the surprise of all of the siblings, that anger was lead by their runt brother, Kohoutek, the one of them who had taken the longest to find his footing in the world, the one who was always ripe with disappointment.
But he was still one of their own, and they all agreed to face the monster bear together, under Kohoutek’s lead.
The remaining siblings tracked Monolith through the mountains for two whole days, not eating or sleeping, planning to be at their most violent, ruthless and desperate by the time they found the beast. They found tufts of his fur clinging to the rocks, his giant pawprints in the ground, sniffed his droppings… which disturbingly had a scent of felvarg to them… a morbid reminder of the type of beast they were up against. One by one, Kohoutek’s siblings began to doubt this mission, yet they stayed firm, following the determined aura surrounding him.
The day finally came when they discovered Monolith’s location, having snuck up on him from a ridge above and at the edge of a harrowing ravine. Kohoutek made the plans for his siblings, hoping to ambush Monolith from all sides in the same way that Monolith had ambushed their brothers and other felvargs many times before. All of them were hungry for fresh meat, as well as hungry for pure and relentless revenge.
Kohoutek lead the charge of his sibling army, all of them attacking from all sides while the great bear was nearest to the edge of the ravine. As they had planned, the bear was surprised and it gave them a brief moment of having the upper hand. However, the bear was furious, cornered and as hungry as the rest of them. It charged with fury and slashed its giant claws in all directions, missing its hit on most of the felvargs who were attacking but got lucky and found his giant paw colliding with the head of one of Kohoutek’s siblings, crushing his skull and killing him instantly. The others did not falter or have time to mourn and continued their onslaught, jumping, dodging, biting… but one by one, they were falling.
Only Kohoutek and two others, older siblings from earlier litters, remained, and one of them was severely injured with half of his face bleeding and eye missing. Even then, he refused to back down, and Kohoutek didn’t encourage him to stop, even as doubt started to plague him while seeing his beloved siblings fall.
“We’re all in this together!” one of Kohoutek’s siblings yelled, “With so many fallen, we can’t just turn back now! We have to finish what we came here to do!”
Kohoutek looked to his brother, the doubt continuing to envelop him, but he had to stay strong. Isn’t that what it meant to be a descendant of great felvargs? A descendant of Loki? A descendant of Fenrir himself?!
The three of them made their final charge together, each making their attempt to get at the great bear’s throat while being successful at avoiding the claws and fangs of the tiring bear. As Kohoutek landed after a successful dodge, he noticed something beneath the bear’s feet as the gravel was being kicked up. Bones lay there… the bones of a bear…
Was this why the bear had come to this perilous place? For a moment, Kohoutek wondered if the bear was mourning the loss of his own brother, much like the way he and his brothers were attacking in revenge. What if this bear--
Kohoutek’s thoughts were cut short when he heard the deathly final scream of one of his brothers. The one who had a single eye remaining had lost his head while Kohoutek was lost in thought and the other brother, enraged, ahd charged without Kohoutek’s support.
“I’ll kill you!” the remaining brother lunged at the bear, but was tossed aside, over the ravine, fate unknown, leaving Kohoutek as the final one, in a battlefield drenched in blood with the remains of both felvarg and bear scattered about. The great bear was injured, but not fatally, and Kohoutek knew that if he didn’t finish things here, the bear would surely survive and lead others down this endless path of revenge.
“I will not back down…!” Kohoutek told himself, his death inevitable at this point, but his pride in wanting to defend his fallen brothers was overwhelming. He had to do everything he could for them in their honor… he was now the last one alive… the last one who remembered them…
But so was the bear and his own brother…
Kohoutek charged. Monolith charged. Kohoutek dodged a swinging paw. Monolith lunged. Kohoutek swiftly moved behind towards the edge of the ravine to where the ground was softer and had been kicked up by the battle… and the bear followed, wanting to send Kohoutek into the ravine like the bold brother before him.
Monolith’s next charge would be his last, swiping at Kohoutek while losing his footing, and Kohoutek barely managing to slip to the side, gripping onto the cliffside with only his front paws as the ground collapsed, sending Monolith into the shadowy ravine below… accompanied by the bones of the bear that had been buried in that spot.
Kohoutek watched as the bear met its end, disappearing into a river far down the cliffside. The young male felvarg pulled himself up and looked around the bloodied ground, the bodies of his siblings everywhere. For the first time in his life, he was completely alone. One by one, he buried his brothers. The place that was once a mourning spot for a bear had became the mourning spot of a felvarg.

Ahhhhhh I started this last month but then got ill so I only just now finished working on this xD Decided to get more experimental with this one and I'm really not sure if I love or hate the result 8D;; BUT YEAH FINALLY DOING POCS FOR MY FELVAGRS xD It's an activity that is pretty much the first thing everyone does with a new felvarg since there's really no reason to not do it first because it gives free tack and some felcredits, and the prompts are really nice for introducing characters. I've just been... really lazy about it... and doing the other activities/events instead xD I LOVE MY BOY KOHOUTEK THOUGH //CRAI// HE'S A GOOD SON. I PROMIIIISE.
Art experiment gone well or no, though?
EDIT: Added the story

omg thank you so much, Nikka! <33 Using flat shades is kinda challenging but feels so good at the same time! The style that inspired me actually came from some beautiful landscape prints done for US National Parks back in the 30s ((I think)) though a newer artist has been doing them for National Monuments and other public lands, too. THE NAME IS ESCAPING ME AT MOMENT THOUGH //YELLS

That's super cool! It's got full detail, but the way the animals are drawn looks like how a cave painting might depict them fighting.

Im actually speechless when I saw this. I took back my words, this is your best deviation so far. Hands down. It's like your drawing of Mesimelon but with more realistic strokes this time instead of diamond. Those layers and colours are so breathtaking, you dont even scared to put bold colours behind Kohou that only have pale colours. THE POSE ARE NICE TOO
Great job, really great one
