It doesn't seem overly sinister, but more dramatic; the trendils ignite massive explosions. Perhaps a more fitting metaphor/simile would be to fuses.

if you used darker colors it would look more evil.

cool texturing and the ribbons look great too. Reminds me of nicks stuff. I think he just busted out one recently. Anyway, back to you, the webbing looks really cool, only thing i can say to do diff would be to define the clouds a bit more (kinda like Jens' ambience piece)
