Description
Zenda, of course, wasn’t quite done talking.
Coming up beside Neci, the shiny Zorua cast the other girl a playful glare. “Well, aren’t we a little flighty today,” she mused, shaking out her dark fur. “Well, if you insist on going around town, maybe you’d like to know about the Missions that were currently put up?”
Neci sighed, and nodded grudgingly. “Yes, I guess. Possibly. Maybe.”
“I take that as a yes. You can either go to the Bay and deliver a letter – which I highly doubt you’ll do – or you can do something around the village for those of us who have lost partners.”
Pricking her ears, the fuchsia Stunky glanced over at Zenda. “Hmm. Well, I guess that doesn’t sound too awful,” she murmured. Of course, she had no plans to do any sort of mission, even if it involved helping others cope with loss. No one had helped her – and she, selfishly, was holding that against them.
Zenda glanced over at her friend, before sighing. “Fine. Okay. I’ll see you around, alright? Don’t do anything stupid, Neci.”
The Stunky watched the Zorua walk down a different path as they came to a crossroads in the path. She paused momentarily, wondering what she was going to do now that she was awake. She could always return to her apartment. Shaking her head to herself, she quickly took the path that lead away from town.
As she walked, she thought about what had happened since she returned to Tao. She wasn’t even sure herself – she had heard it second-hand from Alex, and from a few others who she was willing to talk to. Something about a green fairy and an evil Zoroark. And the Merchants. Always the Merchants.
A scowl settled on the young girl’s face as she thought about them. Particularly PK. Sure, it was she that had made the Snowflake Memorial . . . but did that really make up for what had happened? For everything that they had lost? What she had lost?
She remembered that night. She remembered it all too well. Why she had been forced to leave Tao, and why she had vowed never to return. Why, oh why did she come back? There was nothing here for her. Only a handful of friends and a rundown place to rest her head – one that she didn’t even use. Everything had changed. She couldn’t even fall to sleep in this town without being wracked by nightmares and terrors.
Making presents for those whose partners had disappeared. Pah. At least they knew their partners were alive. Together. Her partner was gone forever, struck down by that monster that PK had put so much faith in. All that faith resulted in was a brand new village with blackened hearts that cried out for revenge.
Well, that was how she saw it, anyways.
