A slightly different take on www.deviantart.com/metalime/ar… . Shortly after posting the original, I was thinking about how her face looked too similar to that of a different species I drew, and wanted to try adding barreleye features, and I kind of like this version better.

Still swims fast via water jets, the barreleye face-dome provides better eye protection against debris

Having no rigid bones, merfolk have cartilage skeletons. However, these are filled with muscular fluid-channels that when contracted make the body very rigid and streamlined, useful for not flopping around when swimming at high speeds

Bioluminescent bits only glow when it is very dark, and the yellow body markings are invisible when not illuminated

Eye dome is hard but brittle, and will crack if hit hard enough. This does protect the brain and eyes, however, and can heal if damaged
