I traditionally drew this illustratuion of Archeops and Rampardos for cscdgnpry 's Pokémon tcg card contest found here: cscdgnpry-vs2utw.deviantart.co… '
The card for the contest is slightly digital edited to reach its full potential (appart from this image which is almost identical to the
not-scaned version). I edited it just a little (increasing hue) since my scanner doesn't really catch the colors very well.

i choosed Archeops for this contest because Archeops probably is my favourite Pokémon along with Ampharos. I particularry just love its appearence, but what makes it my fav is the fact that it was my second shiny Pokémon found in Black and White games (after a random encounter Maractus- which I also love). Rampardos is also a Pokémon I like very much (YES; I Love many Pokémon ) I also thought Rampardos was the perfect candidate for Archeops to face in this artwork. Let the battle of the fossils begin!

Design wise, I used graphite for sketching, edging, and watercolor pencils for coloring and shading. I occasionally worked with it over the last month- and I would guess I spent about 15 hours with the artwork alone- (I'm kinda slow since I'm not super experienced traditional artist).

I had some minor trouble with the background of the artwork- (I accidently spilled some chocolate on it- resulting in me trying to fix the blur into the not intended whirlpool)- but I'm still pretty happy with the outcome. My first idea was also to draw a sand/rock field landscape stretching to the mountains, but I realised some brighter colors would look better for the art. I know the reflection of the red sky and sun probably would leave the water in a different color than blue- but let's pretend that things doesn't always work like that in the Pokémon world ^_^
