Description

I think nearly EVERYone can agree on the subject of this motivational: Politicians SUCK.

No better proof can be found in THIS scene from Transformers II,
in which Galloway, under orders from The President of the United States (who shall not be named for obvious reasons)
wanted to start some bureaucratic nonsense by evicting the Autobots of the planet in "hopes" that teh Decepticons would leave if the Autobots were gone.

YEAH, real smart thinking there. Nothing could POSSABLY go wrong by getting rid of the GOOD Robots, while the EVIL Robots wreck up cities, and toss around humans like fleshy ragdolls.

The funniest thing about this is Optimus expression while Galloway was ranting.

I know he isn't saying anything, but one HAS to wonder what Optimus is thinking.
because he's got that "Silenty Judging You" look, and while Optimus would never say it out loud..he MUST think this guy is without a doubt the stupidest living things he's ever encountered.

When it comes right down to it: "Fighting Decepticons is EASY. dealing with Politicians takes REAL courage."

This is true...
I wonder what happened to Galloway... Personally I wouldn't blame them if they just left him in Egypt.

According to some comic books released (which are an expanded universe that "fill in the gaps" between films)
after the events of RoTF, Galloway "eventually" turned up in NEST's California base to yell at them over the damage they caused.

though, he wasn't TOO Angry. he'd been looking for an excuse to shut NEST down.
and, Lennox 'chucking him out of a plane' gave him enough reason to do so.

he began this by using some underhanded political maneuvering to siphon funding away from NEST, and orchestrate their downfall.

his efforts led to the official threat level being downgraded to "Blue" and, he openly denied that there was any active threat from the Decepticons, while also citing the stalemated battle against the Decepticons the previous day as proof of NEST's ineffectiveness.

HOWEVER, his SNAFU scheme wouldn't last for long..

One day, When he learned of a communication blackout/no-fly zone being set up around Sector Seven's old Hoover Dam base without his authorization, he decided to personally check on the site and discover what was going on.

he suspected Lennox trying to circumvent his orders to stand down, which made it all the more surprising when his helicopter entourage was shot down by a biplane (the Decepticon Seeker "Ransack")

Forced to deal with the Decepticon menace firsthand, Galloway was caught woefully unprepared (well, CALL-the-Papers!)
with the soldiers under his direction being gunned down, Galloway had no choice but to called in to NEST, reactivating their authorization.

Apparently, he was so greatful for them saving his ass, that he started being more friendly and working closely with them (Has STARSCREAM been mentoring this guy?!)

Despite him now wanting to help NEST and the Autobots..who wasn't very good at it. (evident from him nearly lowing a Decepticon Sting operation.)

Fortunately or UNfortunately (depending on your viewpoint) NEST and the Autobots wouldn't work with him forever.

when Shockwave attacked a NEST base, Galloway attempted "negotiations" with the decepticon..

..which ended with Galloway being blasted by Shockwave cannon, reducing him to a charred skeleton.

Yeeeah, he really should have stayed in Egypt.

whoa...
Thanks for telling me. You didn't have to do that well, in some ways he deserved it. The world doesn't need another Starscream.

The surprising thing is that it carries on to the third and fourth movie. Scary thing: I believe that it would happen in real life too.

I think the things is that at the time the first movie was made,
Spielberg and Bay had no intention on making sequels, and expected it to be a Stand-Alone film.

but, positive response from the first film eventually led to the production of sequels,
and, it becoming a "film series" no different than Star Wars, or Lord of the Rings.

the whole Politics angle (again) Bay's attempt at bring realism to his vision of Transformers.
that IF 'Giant Alien Robots' came to earth, and a faction of them adopted out planet as their home..

..Would we really be THAT accepting of the idea? would ALL humans be friends with the Autobots?

Obviously NOT.

bringing politics into the story shows that things aren't that simple (and, that most politicians are notorious for making really BAD decisions for teh sake of "National Security")

One reason for a common joke, where most can't tell the difference between the U.S. Congress, and a Chimpanzee Enclosure at a Zoo..

Nothing but alot of "whooping and hollering", and throwing filth around.

the films also showed that the Military are VERY different from Politicians.

in RoTF, a majority of the soldiers extremely disliked Galloway.
and, even the commanding General could care less that he was stranded in some random egyptian desert.

(Still..Lennox tricking him into jumping out of the plane was a nice touch.)

Though, when it comes right down to it. People like Galloway gave the Autobots something else to worry about than Decepticons.

(heck, I bet even Pre-War Cybertron had it's own obnoxious bureacrats. perhaps SHOCKWAVE was one.)

I think shockwave was always a scientist, but you are partly right. In some storylines, the reason Megatron went into politics himself was because of the corruption in their government.

Well, there you have it: Politicians CREATED Decepticons!

and, in a way, I am right about Shockwave. while a scientist, in the IDW G1 continuity, Shockwave was once a Senator.
founding the "Jhiaxian Academy of Advance Technology" as his first act in the Cybertron Senate.

So, yes: Shockwave WAS a Politician before becoming a Decepticon, and Megatron's chief scientist.
