Description
trailing monochrome ribbons
of lost battles, forgotten wars
barren clouds on lost winds
disappear over the far horizon
the horizon broken
by the guilt of dark mountains
the sun sets in the cauldron
of an edgy orange sea
the fingers of the sea
smoothing the sand of evenings
in tentative caress
darkness falls on the shoulders
of whiskey oceans still swirling
as if to make good if it can
the reflections of devoured swans
of golden hue and silent wing
in that darkness
there are no rainbows to mend
just some fireflies blinking
just some salt in the air
it will be dawn again
but not the same dawn
not even any of the past billion dawns
just another pale pink dawn –
the beginning of other tales
other tales
not the lost ones
which turned to ash
in last night’s campfire
not the lost ones
whose stories burnt up
in its embers leaving nothing
but contrition of lapwings
whose shrills tear up the night
and every night since Life
