Description Final design of the Jabberwocky for Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland".

I highly recommend the Art of Alice book "Alice in Wonderland: A Visual Companion", it's 256 pages packed with concept art and behind the scenes photos from the movie.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

β€œBeware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he soughtβ€”
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

β€œAnd hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

the jaberwocky poem by Lewis Carroll.

It seemed a fitting comment

Wow this is amazing! I love the colors and the creativity in this. I love dragon-like creatures and it's cool to find ones that are above the norm. Thanks for sharing it with the world It's very inspiring.
Congrats on the DD, it surely is deserved.

this is absolutely stunning!! i love it!

i've been a long-time fan of all things alice, but i remember when i was a kid i read "The Jabberwocky".. the poem Lewis Carroll wrote, and ever since i've always imagined it as a magnificent, horrible thing like you have here.. :3

brilliant work, man ^^

((btw, i like how you sort of blurred out the trees and everything and focused in on its face and body with the extra detail.. )) :3

why is it that the concept art for this film is better than the finished product?

OMG Congratulations for another DD!!

I finally saw Alice, and it was mindblowing...you did some incredible character design work along with Bobby Chiu and Kei Acedera!
The Jabberwocky looked epic in the movie...although I prefer the designs of red and white soldiers!
Can't wait to have the DVD version!

And keep impressing us Michael!!

The only thing that dissapointed me about this version of the Jabberwock is that he's missing his dinner jacket. With Mr Lee playing him it would have been a nice touch.

Also, everyone calls him the "Jabberwocky", when Jabberwocky was the name of the Poem. The creature is acturly called "Jabberwock", no y on th end.

Sorry, I'm nit picking since I liturlly just finished watching the movie- and I'm a Carroll Nerd

I was very impressed about the exstra pair of claws on his wings and how he used them to walk with. Very awsome idea. And the colouring and texture on him is amazing- espeically how he's furry and scaly at the same time.

oh man i'm not the only one who noticed this...thank goodness.
I agree with everything you said... Its a REALLY good depiction of the jabberwock I just wish he had the jacket. It would bring it totally to life for me.

Jabberwocky is the creature from Lewis Carol's poem of the same name for Through the Looking Glass and What Alice found there [link] A nonsense poem
