one problem i faced when i was a wee baby artist was holding back on expressions, and i think its a common problem a lot of artists have
i was afraid if i exaggerated them too much or added facial lines to emphasize them it would make them look ugly. but boy was i wrong!
expressions in art are probably the most important thing, and theyre what should be exaggerated the most. Because its near impossible to recreate all the extremely subtle details and facial movements in real life expressions, we have to exaggerate them to properly portray the emotion we are trying to convey.
a good sentiment to have when drawing facial expressions is that you can always push it further. the face is like a big wad of clay! squish it and squash it to whatever emotion you want to draw
