Bertie Bowden grew up inspired by the stories of the Flash on the news. He dreamed of running side by side with that man one day. That dream came true however one Christmas, when he was round his Uncle Gary's house for dinner. He was changing out of his snow covered clothes in one of the apartment bedrooms when he knocked the wardrobe door open, revealing a very familiar suit.

Amazed at the fact that his Uncles was the Flash, he pestered him daily, as him everything about his powers. After hearing the story of the Speedforce clan in the museum, Bertie raced there the next day, hiding in the toilets until closing time. Searching, he stumbled across the group, who were stood in the very same lobby they had been in when Gary had gotten his powers.

The Speedforce reluctantly decided to let Bertie enter their ranks and before he knew it, Bertie was back home in his bed. Instantly testing his new speed, he sprinted across the city, arriving at his Uncles flat in less than a minute. The hero agreed to let Bertie join him.

Becoming Kid Quick, he help his Uncle fight crime.

After receiving an invitation to join a team led by Scarab, he declined immediately, saying that being on a team would just slow him down.
