Monsters are a kind of magic-based organism on Alternate! They are able to change their form, although as they age it gets more difficult as things become to settle in. Young monsters constantly alter their forms in response to the world around them, mimicking things to better fit in or navigate their environments, or just changing things to better suit what they like! Merr is at the stage where most things about them are set in stone, however they are able to change their colors, tail, and cheek "fluff" whenever they want!
