Description
There it is sitting. Is it staring at you or not? No? Don't feel too safe, it's one of the uncomfortable sort.---
This is the revision of this older deviation .
I didn't like the look of the old version anymore, so I tweaked it a bit.
The only major changes are an additional background layer, a little more waste and I removed the ornaments.
Lately I've been slacking with new imagery, had no ideas at all.
But revising this existing work and starting to listen to Fantomas and Mr Bungle again appearantly kicked in.
Thoughts are appreciated, critique is welcome. Think twice before you submit a one-word comment.

Breeeeeeeeeeeeep, FAIL. Please try again when you know something about pedophilia, rather than trying to equate it with a bad photoshop of a squid and a.. treetrunk which just doesn't make any damn sense.

You certainly have the power of clear articulation.

really disgusting. and I'm not talking about the visible part.
the image created in comparison of the title and the picture is very intense, one's almost able to feel those
slimy tentacles...
a worthy revision of Germany's biggest "concern" at the moment (if it only would be one...)

that's it! and a few days later nobody cares anymore, until another one is abused or even killed. and like that, it goes on and on... really weird. this is what I call scary!

oh my god, this is kind of sick but I really enjoy it.
I visited your whole gallery and your stuff reminds me to Hannibal or The silence of the lambs movie, a little bit twisted yet exquisite.
Definitely a fav!

I really like the content here. After looking at the piece that it was revised from, I really think you improved on it. As a side note I enjoyed your gallery as well, I look forward to your next work.

this pic definitely has more of a raw feel to it than the earlier one that you edited. between the shinier (or maybe just sharpened quality) tentacles to the more deeply pitted (possibly also sharpened?) tree segment, it reaks of the squid's filth and decay (logical time progression between submissions, i guess ). i liked the old background, though not the old ornamentation, better. or maybe a little tweaked, but not so much. the old background had more of a wet rank feel to it while this just reminds me of badly corroded/rusted metal.
i say that i liked it better only because i (possibly incorrectly) took this to equate this 'squid/tree' with a/the pedophile. as such, i assumed the desired feeling from this pic to be something raw and possibly visually offensive. curious to see if i was correct about any of that speculation...

Now this is my kind of art! I love this macabre stuff! This one reminds me of something you'd see out of an H.P. Lovecraft short story! Maybe even a vision of Cthulhu himself! This is going to my
's for sure.

Man...that is seriously disturbing. I mean, the image on it's own is quite creepy but with the title and all the media attention surrounding paedophilia in recent years it becomes really damn sinister. The image leads the eye nicely from top left to bottom right but I think it's a tiny bit unbalanced and could use something up in the upper right...even just a smudge or slight change in colour to even out the composition. Nothing major though. But really, fucking cool piece.

eugh.. dude, this captures the sickness of the concept so well.. its creepyness, and akwardness, just staring at you as it lays in the filth of its own dementia.. this is very nicely done, and very creepy at the same time.. but goodjob man.. its a very powerful image

ok.. i hope i can remember what i said.. because i adore squids, and hints of cosmic horrors.....
anyhow the bizarre nature of the squid is allowed to comingle with the bizzare nature of the pedophile..
there is of course a wet groping, and capacity to grab with many appendages.. and the tree could represent things growing out of the said touching.....
i do really like the joining of objects in a classic collage feel, instead of a perfect blend ( which often ruins a composition..) you have let the objects retain a semblance to what they were..and now ...what they are ( or are becoming).. very interesting use of some nifty images^^

for some reason, it isn't outside of my imagination to see something like that typing on the computer preying on children over the internet. it sure has the tentacles for it.
also, i am reminded of the ojingo i had for dinner last night prepared by the mother of a good friend of mine. it's a korean squid dish.
as usual, fantastic textures. do you carry around a camera looking for them? (i used to do that)
for some reason the color of the tree and the squid seem dissonant. i wish there was either a smoother transition into the two halves or that the color was uniform.

MidnightExigent In reply to r00t [2005-03-03 22:46:10 +0000 UTC]
Heh I don't have a camera unfortunately, I use textures I find on stocksites mostly.
Hmm I've been trying to make a "smoother transition", but it always looks crappy, totally out of place.
And for the colors, I don't really want it to look uniform. I actually gave it a run hours ago and it looked too odd to me.
Thanks for the input David.

this is kinda crazy.. i didn't realize it was a tree until i blew it up.. it kinda reminded me of a shrimp and thought right away "Shrimpdapus" he-he!!! i like it man.. the texture gives it a real mossy outdoor effect..

I've always liked this for some reason. Maybe its the combining of two kind of random things. The background textures work very well with it. The tiny little butterfly is a nice touch as well. The only thing I think you should rework some more, is the transition between the squid tentacles and the tree
give it more of a redish/purple color. As always, great job, my friend!

MidnightExigent In reply to xureal [2005-02-26 16:37:07 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the transition/blending looks kinda unsmooth on the deviation image, might tweak it later on.
Thanks for the input bro.

BrainDeadlettes [2005-02-26 02:19:51 +0000 UTC]
the tentacles look especially real the way you made them shine like that
the background works good with it>like decay and rot and secrets, morbid like
I think you could have done better with the tree part like made it a bit more creepy and mysterious like
just my opinion
maybe some fog to distort
overall though its real cool though i wouldnt exactly say it scares me...but of course it is only a picture now if that thing was slitherying around in my backyard....

MidnightExigent In reply to BrainDeadlettes [2005-02-26 02:27:39 +0000 UTC]
The only mystery intended in this are the hollow black "eyes". I chopped the tree to give it a more offending and bare-naked look.
I could have added some fancy things like fog or whatever, but I wanna get right to the point with this image. But if I'd state the key points, it would be boring.
