Description
CW Death/Murder/PTSD
When Henry was just 7 a robber broke into his house and murdered both of his parents. His older sister was just 9 at the time, but her quick thinking saved both of their lives on that fateful day. She grabbed Henry and ran into her bedroom with him, locking the door behind her and telling Henry to be quiet until she said it was okay.
After she couldn’t hear anything else moving in their house she left her room, got the home phone, and called 911. Both children were put into foster care, where they were later both adopted together at ages 12 and 14. They thankfully only had to go through three foster homes before they found their forever family.
They both had to go to therapy regularly. After all of this happened Henry had trouble sleeping at night. His now adoptive parents took him to the doctor, who diagnosed him with PTSD and insomnia. Despite his sleeping problems, when he did sleep he tended to sleep walk, roaming all around the house, doing, or not doing, various things.
He could never remember what happened that day, all he remembered was his sister telling him to be quiet. He found what happened later on because his foster parents told him when he was older. Before that they just said that his parents were angels now and they were happy up in Heaven.
He was horrified to hear the truth, and was in denial for a long time after. If this had actually happened then why couldn’t he remember it? This quickly turned into a dark depression for Henry, and he often acted out all throughout high school because of it.
Both of the kids eventually grew up, and his sister barely speaks to him anymore. The most he hears from her is if she needs something or if it was a special day, such as his birthday or a holiday.
They both still visited their foster parents occationally up until they passed away as well. Their foster mother passed of cancer, and their foster father passed soon after her. They didn’t have an autopsy done, but always assumed he died from a broken heart.
Henry is 43 now and his sleepwalking never ceased. He also developed a drinking problem soon after he turned 21.
Most nights it was uneventful, he would wake up on the couch or the floor or sometimes even the bed he had originally laid down in, but always felt irritated and tired when he awoke.
There were a few incidents that were trouble though. Such as the time he let himself out of the house while he was sleepwalking, almost walking out in front of traffic only to be awaken by the sound of honking car horns.
Another time he was cutting up carrots in his sleep, and he cut the pad of his pointer finger on his left hand. He had to drive himself to the hospital in the early hours of the morning, and it eventually healed, but left a flat surface on the tip of his finger in it's wake.
He "deals" with his PTSD and other ailments through drinking and addictive sleep aids. He still can’t remember what happened that day.
