Well, it finally happened even though I was really hoping it wouldn't..

This morning, just after midnight my hamster Chance passed away in my hands. Im not sure what I was expecting but his death really hurts..

He was fine and we were playing outside the cage not 20 minutes before he suddenly collapsed. I feared he choked on the snacks I only gave him a moment ago but he was gone within seconds.. heart attack maybe..? I don't know..

Chance was a great hamster.. Very social and gentle, we really bonded over the 2 years and 7 months that he lived. He was an explorer and troublemaker from very early on; always looking to climb where he shouldn't with little regart for his own well-being. He LOVED climbing, literally only stopped when age claimed his sharp claws but damn if he didn't still try. Despite him getting older and older the boy never gave up his sense of adventure (even if the little old man needed his nap more often..). Always friendly and playful, he always brought a smile to my face even on the worst of days with his antics.

My friends and I have an inside joke of his full name being Fighting Chance because no matter what, he would always fight for his life. He had to have a lump on his testie lanced TWICE and he didn't even flinch afterwards, just demanded treats for his trouble. He wanted to live, and I loved him for it.

He was a truly special squeak and I will sorely miss him. I truly hope he can rest easy now. Love you Chancey-boy.
