Description
Done originally for a weekly activity. Nocta Brimstone, the topic was "Nocturnal Predator". This was kind of my take on a creature inspired between both Lycans, Vampires and various animals in general. The eyes were inspired by certain Marsupials and just given a glazed over effect.Related content

I would not want to run into that on an evening stroll.

I think this is one of my most fave images ever in the entire world. Is the one that made me think i would like to do art as a career.

Thanks,
This image is funny. It has gotten a lot of publication notoriety and a lot of people love it. I like it too, I don't necessarily think it's my best piece but people are somehow drawn to it over a lot of my other work lol
The image started right side up when I was painting it. I flipped it to check some things and it immediately looked 5 x better.

whoo hoo! I love seeing this one again. Seriously, one of my all time 'sticks in my memory and will for years to come' favorites. I seem to remember either a forum tutorial or video tutorial for this one, with the lovely sort of 'eureka' moment when you realized upside down was the way to go with this guy.
Very cool.

Haha, yea.
When I did this for COW I think it was the first time I won. I explained to people how it started upside down because they kept mentioning how it looked upside down. Later, after COW I went back and just made some minor changes and touch ups, adding falling debris and hanging vines to help the gravity a little. In reply to another comment here, I think it's kinda crazy how much attention this image gets. It's why I keep it as my main avatar on myspace..since people seem to know/recognize it and it sticks in their minds.

Thanks,
The only real detail (for me at least) is in the face and neck fur. The rest of him and the image is like a speed painting, which is why I think it works. People are drawn to the face and eyes.

Hey Mike, great facial design for this one ! lurv it. One tiny thing for me though, since it is in a crouching position, it feels he is not hanging upside down from a branch but more like the picture is upside down. Don't know if it makes sense haha. Anyway, nice designs as always, thats what I always enjoy about your work, the originality and unique touch.

Thanks man,
Makes perfect sense if you read some of my replies to other people
It was originally intended to be right side up, so when I flipped the image 75% through painting, the gravity effect wasn't really taken into account for the creature. I liked how the head/face looked much more once I flipped it.
