It's a good basic scene, but you have objects that come forward of the surface being cut off by the frame. This is a depth perception contradiction, and is the probable cause of the eyestrain.
Try a scene without any objects that come forward.

It's interesting, actually, post-processing similar to this I've found works with certain games if the chroma shift is added as an after-effect. It makes everything down to the POM/Normal maps 3D (As if POM wasn't cool enough as it was.) and adds 3 dimensional depth to the FOV, it's a really trippy experience, especially in games like Crysis where I added a flowgraph mod, it made it so realistic...

It's a first time experiment; I'm pretty sure normal people don't get something perfect the first time. You don't have to piss on everyone's party by saying someone is doing something better. Of course! Nobody is ever perfect, so there will always be people better than them.
