Oh it's awesome that you've discovered the pure concentrated joy that is avatar.
Obviously I'm one of those people that can just enjoy a kids' cartoon for its own merits, but this one is an exception. In the early episodes one can see that their target audience was children, in spite of the fantastic production values, choreography, voice cast and writing. However, as the series progressed, the writers began to push some of its boundaries, and found itself catering for the most part to the greater majority of its viewership: socially inept adolescents and sexually frustrated twenty-somethings, to say nothing of loyal 3a.m stoners. But I jest: the point is that the show really is very, very good. If for nothing else, people should watch it for the beautiful visual dynamics such as of the kung-fu fights that involve shifting the phase state of water from liquid, to ice, to vapour, in between trading blows hand-to-hand. Awesome.
I've also let my fanart of the series terribly affect my ability to update my comic, see my Aang and Toph pieces.

I agree with you, at first I thought Avatar was pretty much of a kiddy cartoon. But it's really quite complex with elements and styles of fighting of the ancient chinese. Really is more of a cartoon than it is and is worth watching for elder people *nodnod*
