Description
Yeah... since loads of people were asking how I drew when I specifically stated that I draw with PHOTOSHOP 7 ONLY at the bottom of every deviation, some people still asked. So there we go, I sketch, lineart and CG all on Photoshop.
And yeah I do edit as I go along.
FAQ
+I DO USE TABLET
+I don't use pen tool, I do the lineart with a 4 pix solid brush.
+I color with the same solid brush.
+I'm lazy to add words in this tutorial.
+I group layers.
+I resize the sketch layer bigger so the lineart is smoother.

kay, why do you use so many layers? I work practically the same only with one shade and thicker lines, and only use 3 ore 4 layers xD
good tutorial for many people ^^

I'm impressed all of your line art is using the brush!
Very cool.
When I use PS again I'll have to play around grouping layers...

XD Simple and easy to understand. Thanks.
Is grouping the layers any different from putting them in sets?

you can even see it if you look closely, but its kinda obvious its the default hard round brush, isnt it?

Ode-Chan In reply to Lee-nus [2007-07-09 12:09:16 +0000 UTC]
I mean brush or pen, but now that i look closer i see it's a brush. I could never get such a result with the brush tool. It's so straight!

problem is, you probably dont have a graphic tablet then. which means, you cant use such features as pen pressure, which make the lines thick/thin depending on your pressuring the pen. then i'd recommend the pen tool. do a dA search for pen tool tutorial or something, and you'll find out.

hmm.. what makes you think i don't have a tablet? cause I'm young and I can't afford one? [link] I bought it with my OWN money if that's the reason.

Lee-nus In reply to Ode-Chan [2007-07-09 16:18:51 +0000 UTC]
nah, but if you do, the brush should respond to your pressure and thus make the line thinner/thicker depending on just that. i said nothing of the kind, and as for your age, i have no idea. that was a tip, i suggest you be more appreciative.

Ode-Chan In reply to Lee-nus [2007-07-09 21:42:20 +0000 UTC]
but why is there a connection between pressure and the fact that the line come out so straight and even?

Lee-nus In reply to Ode-Chan [2007-07-09 23:29:17 +0000 UTC]
ah, if you're talking about the quality of the line, then i guess its just about having a steady hand. there's another field where the pen tool can be handy.

Awesome It's interesting to see all the layers you use~
Sorry to ask, but do you use lasso tools in your shading, or is it all just straight-out brushwork?

Mikutashi In reply to raspedratwilight [2007-07-09 12:04:40 +0000 UTC]
I use lasso tool on lineart layer on a particular section I want to color and fill, then use a brush to neaten up the edges on seperate layer.

Sketch layer I would use around 600x600 to 800-800, then resize it to 1200-1400 ish.

I see...
only one thing I couldn't understand from the pictures, that is, which brush settings do you use for innking? do you keep it at 100% opacity or lower?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Mikutashi In reply to New-chaossapphire [2007-07-09 12:06:18 +0000 UTC]
Keep it on 100% opacity. 4 pix brush, shape dynamics and that's it.

Using CG everytime must be easy. (Especially if you use a tablet.) Too bad that's what everyone use these days. No one appreciates handmade work anymore even though it looks good.
