Description
Mammuthus meridionalis or Southern Mammoth lived around 2.6-0.7 Ma and have a wide geographic distribution across Eurasia and North America. This particular subspecies, M. m. vestus was distinct in its' greatly concave forehead and so far known to occur only in Italy. Not the largest of the Mammoths, but still stood at around 4m high at the shoulder.
The pencil sketch was done last Nov 2007, the digital modification done Nov 2008 (I enjoy my new graphic tablet...hooray!!). Still playing with ear size, fur distribution and colouration.
