Description **** Check out my new film everybody! Better than the last! ****

A play on the traditional folktales of baby-stealing canines, this film is a short story of theft and punishment, appropriately named “The Consequence”.

This piece is an experimental combination of live animation and paper cutouts. All puppets, sets, and effects were made by hand. I had a really fun time on this one. I had no idea how well my camera would record in a low light situation, so a lot of my time was spent crossing my fingers and hoping everything would turn out ok. Had I known the camera would work so nicely (and not blur things, as I expected it to) I probably would have invested more time in the scenery and puppets to add even more detail to them. They were created simply with the impression that small details wouldn’t be visible through the screen. With that one criticism, I’m very happy with this as my first attempt at planning, filming, editing, and producing an actual film.

This film was included in my portfolio to apply for Experimental Animation at CalArts (and I got in). Seeing how much of a success this turned out to be on such an extremely low budget, I’m looking forward to the films that come after this one that I have more time to invest in. Everyone, cross your fingers for me! I have big plans.

Music by Mikey Kirkpatrick (aka Bird Radio). Much thanks to him for allowing me to use his music for my film. It’s quite beautiful, isn’t it? You can find his website here: [link] Give him a listen. You may be hooked.

Because they're dangerous wild animals.

Yes we are. We have moral sense. A wolf does not.

Not All Humans Have Moral Sense. People who are mentally unstable for instance.

Featherologist In reply to Convexity-Wolf [2012-07-04 16:57:04 +0000 UTC]

You can't compare a mentally retarded human with a wolf. Your original point was that wolves are always the bad guys. Quite the opposite, these days they're practically gods. People don't realise that they're not cute, they're not cuddly, and they are dangerous animals.

Misunderstanding led to people thinking they were the devil, and misunderstanding has led to people thinking they are harmless.

Wolves Are Harmless Unless You Give Them A Reason Not Too Be. Most Of The Time Thats The Case, Yeah some have Rabies, Bats have Rabies? Squirrels and Some Domestic Dogs, but there not stereotyped?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Featherologist In reply to Convexity-Wolf [2012-07-06 16:57:00 +0000 UTC]

They most certainly are not harmless. Did you not read about the Swedish woman killed by a supposedly harmless captive pack a few weeks back? They mauled her outright.
Ever hear of Candice Berner? She was mauled by a perfectly healthy pack of Alaskan wolves.
You know why? They were fair game. With the Swedish lady, all she had to do was doubt herself for a split second. That's all it takes for a wolf to turn on you. With Candice, she was running. That's all it took. They saw her as prey.

They are wild, they are dangerous, and anyone who thinks they are harmless is more than welcome to go stand in an enclosure with a whole pack of them.

Squirrels are stereotyped. They're all called tree rats and treated as vermin. You'll find that most animals are. Hyenas are a terrible misconception.
Wolves, however, are still not harmless. There's no such thing as a harmless predator.

Convexity-Wolf In reply to Featherologist [2012-07-07 21:07:29 +0000 UTC]

I stand with a pack of them every day. I feed them, I study them, Its people like you that ruin things in the world. Your last sentence makes no sense to what your trying to say. You say were different from them. Why? Cause we stand on two legs? cause we use forks and knives? What makes you think One Animal Is Different from Another. Yeah, Theres no such thing as a harmless predator but that leads to the point why Humans are know as The APEX PREDATOR. Yeah, about 720 humans are killed yearly from Wolf attacks. Yet, there's over 5-8 THOUSAND Wolves killed. Why do you think their endangered? When One Life ends another is given its the way things are. Sorry to hear about The Swedish Woman, Sorry to hear about Candice, but its the Circle of Life. Rather you or any other stubborn heartless person out there believes it. We are no different from animals. The only difference is Appearance. Thats It. Im done with this. Say what you want after but im sticking to my opinion. Thats another great thing about life. Free Will. Unless you have anything Against that. Then Im just done altogether.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Featherologist In reply to Convexity-Wolf [2012-07-08 08:48:04 +0000 UTC]

Considering you 'stand with a pack of them every day' (and I'd like to see some proof of this - wether or not it's in your mind is another question) you are extremely ignorant about wolves. 720 humans may be killed yearly by snakes, spiders, dogs, but certainly not wolves. Attacks and kills are very rare. That's because majority of people understand that they're not cuddle buddies.

Yeah, humans are the apex predator. We hunt wolves. Wolves, however, are by no means endangered. Again, give me proof that they are.

If you consider me heartless because I value human life then by all means, judge me. That's your free will to do so. Personally I think you're the one with something against free will, as according to you someone can't have a different opinion to you without being called heartless.

Okay, I Dont even know why i tried talking too you. Hunter? Pelt Collector? Thats just wrong thinking human value is more valuable then any other life in the world but like i said im done with this.

Featherologist In reply to Convexity-Wolf [2012-07-14 07:39:27 +0000 UTC]

Well according to you views thus far you must also be against meat, leather, conventional medicine, soap, candy... Flash news for you sweetheart, they all use animal deriatives in some way or another. You can't be against me hawking for meat and using the pelts of hunted animals when you yourself use them in ways that are far more unethical.

Once again, I'd like proof from your original claim that you know absolutely anything true about wolves.

Because in a lot of old stories and folk lore the wolf was a symbolization of a bad person/someone who couldn't be trusted, or evil in general. Make sense and is it necessary to rage about something like this?

Amazing work here. I really do love it. I adore shadow puppets AND folk tales. The art direction and story were beautiful.

But for a film, I would liked to have seen the pacing move and flow more. The beginning stared out nice an calm, and the conclusion was very calm and slow, giving us time to register what happened, and those were good. But around the middle, the speed really needed to pick up a bit. It seemed once the wolf took the baby, everyone was just like 'Whatever, no biggie', and it was slightly distracting.
And, I'm not talking action-movie speeds, just things needed to pick up so it looked like the wolf and the man were running, not sauntering.
Other than the pacing, though, I adored this. It was clearly beautiful, and definitely deserving of a DD! Wonderful job!~
