I think the top of the photo is nice, you get the thirds effect, and otherwise one wouldn't appreciate length of the pokey red things. I think the background should be a little lighter if you ever get the chance near the leaves but it shouldn't be a solid amount of light because the depth is nice when there is a variation of darkness, it also enhances the brightness of the top. Great photo! I like how the left of the flower with its diagonal pokey things mimic the curve and angle of the leaves on the right below. You might want to brighten up that portion of the leaves so the diagonal becomes a bit more apparant.

It looks nice - the vibrant red of the flower is very effective. I think you should have cropped the top of the photo off though - there's a blank space at the top and it's kind of... uneccesary, if the border was closer around the plant then the onlooker's attention would be more fucosed on the plant. Also the background varies and looks black in some parts but grey in others, I think (and this is just my personal opinion you may not agree) that it would look more proffessional if the backgraound was all the same tone/colour. I also think it would be nice if the leaves were a bit brighter and stood out a bit more - they disappear into the background a bit and give the effect that the flower is floating. Sortof. If you get what I mean. (Though for all I know that could have been your intention)
