meticulous: Mateo is often single-minded and diligent in most things he does, preferring to complete his work on his own. He's very precise and attentive, and once he's absorbed in doing something, it's hard to catch his attention. He doesn't like the help of others, believing them to be inefficient and gets frustrated whenever they don't do something the way he would. When he has to work with someone, he often hovers over their shoulder and watches intently, and has no qualms about butting in and correcting every minor mistake.
loyal: Mateo tends to keep to himself, so he finds it hard to reach out and connect with others. On the off chance that he forms a bond with someone, he feels obligated to stay by their side and offer his assistance in any means necessary. He'd be easily persuaded to do things he would never normally do if it was someone important asking him to do it. His loyalty lies in select individuals rather than a whole group, such as the Wind Colony. He doesn't care for the Wind Colony the way that he cares for his parents and sister, and he would follow them in a heartbeat even if they did something horrendous.
humble: Mateo brushes off the praise others give him, considering himself and the things he does nothing special. He doesn't stand out too much, and prefers to keep it that way. He doesn't like to be complimented, believing that doing the bare minimum of things such as doing favors are nothing praise-worthy. candid: Mateo is blunt and straightforward. He is rarely, if ever, evasive for better or for worse. He is good at telling cats what they need to hear, but is quite dense and often says these things at the wrong times, coming off as insensitive. He's a firm believer in truthfulness and states things as they are, with no devious intent behind his words. He believes that the truth must be said even if it hurts, and that saying it outright is a big step in accepting the reality of a situation.
stoic: While he isn’t “emotionless” to say, he’s just very bad at outwardly expressing his emotions, whether it be through facial expression or his tone of voice. Mateo, to others, just seems to be calm, blank, and accepting of whatever is happening. He shows little to no outward surprise at minor things. Though, it's not hard to get a visible reaction out of him; it just wont be as reactive as other may be. It's hard for a lot of cats to read his face, which can come in handy at times, but it also makes it hard to communicate. He tends to bottle up the hardships he feels and doesn’t say a word about it.
guileless: Mateo is a cat whom if you ask a straightforward question- he’ll give you a straightforward answer (to the best of his ability, anyways). He doesn’t seem to have a cunning bone in his body, appearing more ingenuous than anything. He's pretty honest, and will typically answer anything asked truthfully. Unfortunately, he can also be pretty naïve at times. He'll typically believe anything someone says if they seem trustworthy enough to him, no matter how silly.

finicky: Mateo is fussy and attentive to pretty much anything he's doing. He's extremely attentive to making sure others do things the way that he wants them to when working with others, to an almost obnoxious extent. He's very finicky, breaking out of his reserved exterior to nitpick every mistake. To cats he cares about, he's extremely fussy and worries about them almost obsessively. He constantly asks how they're feeling, if they need something, etc. etc. His finicky behavior around those he cares about stems from the loss of his father, although he doesn't appear to realize this.
expedient: He doesn't like to admit it, but he's willing to go to any extent to get what he wants. Mateo prefers to do what is convenient for him, and ignores how it affects others. He's absorbed in his own world, and doesn't really think about how his actions may affect the ones he doesn't care much for. He typically just blindly puts his faith into Oordeel, himself, and the ones he's loyal to, and will go to extreme extents for them.
dependent: Mateo has lived his whole life just doing what he was told back in his home colony. He's accustomed to just doing what others expect of him, and feels lost and useless without being told what to do. He isn't much of a leader-type cat, and usually follows after the first cat who volunteers to lead with no fuss. He doesn't mind following other cat's orders- he prefers it that way. It makes him feel more secure and reassured that he's not doing the wrong thing.

Mateo comfortably sat himself uptop a stack of crates, green eyes fixed on the expansive sea. He didn't really pay much attention to where his paws had taken him, as long as he found a place to seek solace (preferably a place devoid of any.. "ghosts," if that's what you'd like to call them). As soon as the water had come within his range of view, the sight had intrigued him and he headed towards the docks and climbed uptop the myriad of storage units, where he was still perched now, as calm as ever. He had never seen the sea so up close before, and the view had fascinated him. It outstretched far beyond the horizon, and he could see the distorted reflection of the city lights and moon in the waves below him.

These past moons, there had been a quiet voice in his head wondering if coming to the valley was a mistake. Mateo had tried hard to ignore it, but as the days had gone on, travelling far from the home he had come from, he couldn't help but feel that all of this was a mistake. He felt that he had made little progress in his quest to become Legendary. What was he going to do if he came home empty-pawed to his mother and sister and tell them of his failures? That he had fooled them into thinking they had lost not just a father, but a son as well? If he failed, he didn't think he could ever go back home and face the look on their faces if they knew. Mateo couldn't bear the thought, and he vowed that he would work harder this trial. He would strengthen his powers, and do anything to become Legendary. Absolutely anything. This promise in his head gave him hope, and made the weight on his shoulders feel just a bit lighter.
